I was looking for a car yesterday for my daughter and we looked at the Optima EX. That is one helluva car for $22K. Leather seats, Alpine stereo, panoramic sun roof, super comfortable seats, very nice fit and finish, interior that looks better than a Bimmer, and a 10 year warranty to boot! Not super fast, but that's what I was looking for for her. Kia's got some sporty cars and with the addition of a chief engineer from the M Division, they might be a car maker to watch.

I think there is a version of the Sonata corporate sibling to the Optima which you can get for her in Orange! I remember seeing it at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.

I would stipulate in his contract that he can only drive kia's. I know I would be miserable going from Beemer handling to...just about anything else...within reason.

The problem is, they just have no soul. The cars are nice, but they are like appliances. When you drive a bmw, there is a certain feel to it. Might not be tangible to all, but I definitely notice it.

Having rented the Sonata twin, I must agree. For about those dollars, I'd prefer the new 2015 Golf or Mazda 6....most SPD (soul per dollar) at that price range for something also practical.

I agree. That's why I'm getting a bimmer and my daughter is getting an Optima! I was just saying that, for the money, it's a great car loaded with just about every option imaginable. They've over produced them, the lots are full of 'em so you can get a deal below invoice AND they have a $1,500 rebate deal going on. It's the perfect first car for a young driver. She can buy her own "soul" when she gets older an can afford it.

YES! My son will get something slow and practical, Scion, Hyundai and Kia are on the shopping list. The BMW and subsequently Porsche will give him a target to aim for so he may afford it on his own. Work hard son!

Fortunately the daughter part of her realizes how lucky she is too. She's a great kid.

Like minds again! My two kids' first vehicles were a short wheelbase minivan and a 2 door Cherokee (the old XJ). They appreciated having anything, and now in their 30s, worked up on their own to a Volvo and BMW, respectively. The theory works!

Sounds like good parenting and fruits of your labor, now theirs. Well played good sir! Working towards the same success story myself.

I agree on this. I traded in a 2012 Optima SX turbo(which was my first car) for the M235i .
The 274HP turbo was nice, if they could add some M to it it would be amazing

i wouldn't say the Optima was a appliance, but the Bimmer defiantly has more "soul"

Cant beat the M235i tho

KIA stole Peter Schreyer away from Audi a few years ago. He was Audi's chief designer. Since arriving at KIA he has re-designed their product line, improving the appearance and quality of KIA's immensely. My wife has a 2011 KIA Optima EXL. Great looking car, lots of options, excellent warranty and very reliable. I prefer my M235i though.

Uh, actually, I think they're the only brand with a Soul. http://www.kia.com/us/en/vehicle/sou...ce?story=hello

Sorry 'bout that....

I never meant to compare the Kia Optima to the 235. That would be ridiculous. I was just saying that dollar for dollar, I found it to be a very impressive, very attractive car with lots of options standard. With a 100K warranty, you simply can't go wrong. Great for a kid's first car or even a daily commuter car.
