228i Convertible exhaust question

So, I just bought a CPO 2015 228i xDrive Convertible M-Sport this weekend and it is perfect. Except one thing it is too dang quiet. I want it to have an aggressive tone on acceleration, and be louder at idle without droning.

My thoughts are keeping the stock tips, I have the exhaust flap, deleting the muffler and leaving the resonator. Then weld in a smaller muffler like the one in the link below, and a y-pipe in place of the current muffler.

http://www.jegs.com/i/Dynomax/289/24...RoCKvQQAvD_BwE

The only reason to put the smaller muffler in is because this car is my wife's daily, so I don't want it to be obnoxious for her everyday. The straight through muffler won't quiet it down too much but should take away some resonance.

Let me know your guy's thoughts, will this give me the aggressive tone I'm looking for without any drone for the wife?

Thanks.

Well went to the muffler shop today and got a quote for a muffler delete. $300 Out the Door for stainless pipe and a single black tip to fill the valence. Decided to delete the flap after more research showed me that it doesn't do much, basically stays open after the car is warmed up. Will update again tomorrow after it gets done with a video and pics.

Read the Dinan install instructions for their exhaust it will show where to locate the flap controller and wires. You leave it plugged in so as not to throw a fault code.

From everything I've read it doesn't throw an engine code. Atleast not a MIL on the dash, so I'm not worried about it, I just unplugged it and tied it out of the way, then ordered the BMW plug cover.

That is all you need to do. Just don't try and eliminate it.

I got a M-performance muffler off a f30 328i and did a resonator delete and it sounds fantastic.

Still need to post up some pics and a video, but after a few weeks with it, I'm happy with the muffler delete. Sounds awesome, just the right amount of rumble and pops on upshifts and deceleration. For $300 total (labor, pipe, powdercoated exhaust tip, and exhaust flap simulator) this exhaust is the best bang for the buck. Could definitely be done for cheaper with a different tip, I could see getting it for $200 with a standard tip.

All in all, wifey isn't complaining its obnoxious like my daily, straight piped Challenger 392 Hemi, so that's good lol...

Anyways, I'll try to get some pics and a video this weekend.

I think you should check this out! M235i M-Performance exhaust, fits great, sounds awesome (no drone in comfort and nice pops in sport) plus it makes the car look better!

Sounds good, but I didn't want to spend alot on the exhaust. That's why I did a muffler delete. I like the sound. Would be pointless at this point to change it again from my muffler delete I just did.

Did you end up keeping the resonator or deleting that as well? I deleted the resonator and still have the stock exhaust with the flap open and unplugged. Sounds like an angry baby. Ha ha. I wanted to ask you where in GA are you as I'm in SC in Columbia and go down to the Columbus area once in a while to see friends of mine.

I left the resonator. Deleted the giant heavy muffler lol, put the BMW valve simulator in. Sounds really good, good rumble at idle, and screams when you put your foot in it, but is quiet and no drone when just cruising. The convertible has more wind noise than the drone of the exhaust. Tend to not drive with the top up anyway lol.

I'm in Peachtree City. About 30 minutes southwest of Atlanta.

KB34 Thanks for the response. I drive right through there on the way from ATL to Columbus on 85. I'm still on the fence. Do you have a video yet? I will eventually do the catless DP so I don't know about the delete with that. It might be too crazy for a DD.

I honestly get so busy I forget all the time. I'm currently doing my brakes, so I should have somewhat of a reminder to take a video. I'll try to get it posted in a day or two. And yeah with a catless DP it probably would be pretty loud for a dd.

Finally got a video taken. Not a long one and it's from an iPhone camera.

@KB34 thanks for posting that. I just did the OEM exhaust mod on the stock muffler. It's in between the sound of yours and stock. I'm planning on doing the DP later on so I didn't want it to be too crazy loud as I don't have the resonator. Yours sounds great.
