I've driven the M135i X-drive. Great little car!

Man, I dunno. The car is heavy enough before adding more weight, especially up front and putting in something that generates more understeer. That's just me, and it's coming from a guy with a stage 2 335xi and lives in a VERY wintery environment. I still barely can justify the XDrive.

I get the 0-60 times, and what comes with more grip off the line, but for this car, one I am seriously considering, I'll take mine "S Drive" please.

I guess here's to getting the option I suppose.

The M235i x-drive is already officially announced here in Holland. Only with 8-spd auto, 0-100 km/h in 4,6 seconds.. So 0,2 s faster than RWD.. In a straight line that is, I can remember a test from a German car mag where the M135i RWD was quicker around a track than the x-drive version.

Coming from a 335xi to a M235i, I don't want to go back to xdrive. I'll be getting myself a good set of snow tires and I'll be running circles around a xdrive with all seasons. The argument will come up that you can also get a good set of snow tires for the xdrive.. but realize the xdrive is priced higher.

Besides off the line, I wasn't too impressed with xdrive. Would I get another? Sure, but the rwd 235 is just gobs of fun.

It's good to have options though!

I'm not used to seeing the 228xi and 228xi S listed, that means a Super ultra-low emission vehicle version of the 228xi is coming?

Really. The main reason I buy BMW's is because they don't have all the drivetrain corrupted from driveshaft ETC. Buying an AWD sporty BMW is like putting tomato sauce on Chateaubriand.

I can understand your point, but this was an interesting car (as is the X4)
as a daily car for my wife and myself. Certainly where you have more rain than sun this comes as a more logical option.

HAHAHA, this is AWESOME.

10 to 1, most had to google "Chateaubriand"

I live in one of the worst places regarding winter, cold, ice, rain, blah, blah, and I can barely justify an XDrive. I can't see how many can.

My next will NOT be.

Was your 335i xDrive an F30? E90? If it was an F30, did it have DHP?

I'm curious how you would describe the difference between your 335i xDrive and the M235i.

Thanks
Bruce

Although I don't have the f30, I do have an e90 with an N55, stage 2 power kit, performance exhaust, 6 speed with XDrive.

In theory the engine, exhaust and power is identical to the m235.

The obvious difference I noticed is weight, especially in cornering. It was massive. Turn in was dramatic. Front end grips hard. In fairness, I have older run flat potenza and the m235 had new PSS.

Acceleration seemed quite even though, maybe that was XDrive in action. One thing I noticed was power delivery from 4-5k. The m235 really comes on stronger. Mine seems more linear.

Things I didn't like:
Steering is too light, even in sport+. It's not about accuracy, but a tendency for me to swing the wheel expecting more resistance. And with the turn in of the car I felt it moved and grabbed quickly.

Plastic on the bottom of the doors, and under the glove box. Seemed very cheap.

Suspension seemed to bounce a little more than mine, even in sport or sport+.

E90. The 2 is perfection to me compared to the 3. Don't get me wrong, I loved the time I spent in my 335xi but you lose so many driving characteristics with a longer wheel base, all wheel drive, and in my case, a very tame auto compared the awesome ZF8. Power deliver is much more linear, no noticeable turbo lag, and stiffer setup. I'd be heart broken if you told me to go back to that car after experiencing the M235i.

epic, williewonkerz,

Appreciate the feedback.

FWIW, your descriptions of the M235i compared to the 3 series are analogous to my experience going from a 2008 535Xi to the F30 335i xDrive- the F30 is noticeably more agile and fun to drive.

I like my F30 a lot but two things have recently caught my attention. One is all the positive things I've been reading about the M235i in terms of fun to drive. The other is the availability of the Dinan suspension upgrades and assumed improvement in handling for the F30 xDrive.

Thanks
Bruce

I was pretty dead set on getting AWD but I started thinking about how often I used 4x4 on my truck, and it was very rarely. Basically only when I wanted to go off road or tear it up in 10+ inches of snow before the roads were plowed.

I can wait for the roads to clear up. Stay home from work a day. No big deal.

I had called BMW today and I was told sometimes in July production of the AWD 2-series will begin called X-Drive and for the 228i car I am considering getting to replace my 128i vehicle, it is an $1800 option. My lease ends on 7-25-14 and to extend my lease I would need a contract signed. But I can't sign a contract for a car that I cannot test to be sure that the handling on the 128Xi will be the same or better for me than on just the rear-wheel drive 128i.

I am only 4'10" tall and so far there are not many cars I can drive safely and confidently around curves (jug handles are everywhere in NJ). I tested the Cooper Countryman AWD and I could not stay in my lane going around a curve. I did test the Audi 3 AWD and due to the 12-way adjustable seat, I was able to get so comfortable but the big headrests in the back seat that are not able to be removed bothered me and I love the look of sporty 2-door coupes. I loved the Mini Cooper S in handling but the seat was uncomfortable for me and the price for a car with no power seat was way up there when I added all the driving assistance packages and navigation feeling I really would like another BMW again. I also tested the Nissan Juke since it came with All-Wheel Drive with navigation, leather heated seats, heated power mirrors, and was small but I could not wait to get back into my BMW 128i car. But it did handle curves nicely for me.

I am also wondering if the S is like the SULEV on my vehicle now that is Super Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle?
