Catless Downpipe Smell ?

Hey Guys,

Im planing in going catless but i heard many times that people notice the smell a lot.
Im Driving a F23 which is the Cabriolet version of the 2 Series and most of my Driving 80-90% is in the city and around town, i dont drive much on the Autobahn during my commutes. I dont want to be covered in a foul and stinky smell when im at a Traffic light. I also dont want people to turn on me because my car smells like an old Dodge from the 70s. And of course its absolutely illegal here so if im getting pulled over and the cops notice the smell from a mile away when they approche to my Car it would be really bad aswell.
Can anyone here say how bad the catless downpipes are in terms of smell, especially for someone thats driving a Cabriolet?

I just want to Go catless for tuning reasons, planing on going Stage 2.
I will have to revert it back to a catted downpipe every 2 Years of course to pass the TÜV inspections here. But thatll be no issue for me to do so.

Smells in the garage, but aside from that I don’t ever smell it while driving. I don’t mind the smell of exhaust, but a lot of people do.

Only time I’ve smelt it is if I left the car idling for 10+ minutes and walk by the exhaust.

Never noticed it otherwise and nobody else ever noticed.

Definitely not nearly as strong as people say (in my experience at least)

As long as you don't breath or have a very sensitive sense of smell it's not bad

Especially if you like the smell of an Asian shitbox idling at a red light beside you.

Thanks for your replys guys.
I will give it a try and install it, i will let u know how bad the smell actually is especially for me as i often drive with the top and windows down in the convertible F23.

Do you know if i have to connect both o2 Sensors of the stock catted downpipe to the new catless downpipe aswell or can i cover both holes in the new downpipe with some apropriate screws?
I know i will get an check engine light and an error code, i hope i can remove those with Bootmod3.
But im not sure if its neccessary to have both sensors installed as there is no cat or anything that needs to be checked constantly right?

The first one closest to the engine definitely monitors fuel trim and is needed. If they weren't necessary the DP manufacturer would leave them off.

Let us know what you think about the smell. A lot of people just live with it and don't talk about it.

You can go stage 2 with a high flow catted DP
