If you're not a large person (like over 6') I would absolutely do the M235i. I drove one and it is simply incredible. The N20/26 is a great engine, but the M235i is an unbelievably fun package.

I jumped into an M-sport 428 (because I can't afford a 435 m-sport). I find the interior of the 428 is a much better design, much more comfortable and more pleasing. There is soooo much room. I enjoyed being inside the 428 much more. Yes it's substantially down on power compared the the 235. I liked the proportions of the 428 much better as well. Steering was similar. Brakes are similar. What it boils down for me is that I don't want to just "live" with a car for the next 36 months....rather I want to love my car in every way for each one of those days. For me, that car is the 428 m-sport in EB. (Plus with a jb4, intercooler, down pipe, intake and charge pipe, I'm sure it will be fast enough to make me smile for its speed as well as looks. Get whatever car you connect with. Drive both back to back. |

M235i vs 428i
I drove them back to back a couple of weeks ago.
The M235i was incredible to drive, the problem was it kept asking you to push it... I really couldn't see myself keeping my license in that car! The 428i was more mature but still agile. There was a big difference in HK system as well I noticed, the 4 series HK is vastly superiour imo. |

Just think about how many months it would take you to save up an extra $5k. I realize that's a lot of money for many people... but not for people that are buying a brand new 428i. I had similar thoughts when I built my 328i. I wanted to be under some magical number I came up with. Truth is... I blew much more than $5k on less important and silly things in just the past few months. My life would not be any different if I had decided to spend a bit more for the 335i. I refuse to believe there are people out that that can afford a 428i, but can not do the 435i financially... Think about that and don't make a mistake. It'll cost way more if you have to swap your car out later because you just have to have those 6 cylinders... and you realize it's financially doable That being said, the 428i is more than fast enough to put a smile on anyone's face. I love my 328i... but next time around a 10% cost difference isn't going to make me go with the smaller engine. |

I'd go for the 235 if the 435 is out of the picture.

Same logic would suggest a 435 owner could afford a Cayman. Cayman owner could afford a 911. 911 owner could afford........Hey, if i can afford a 428 then I surely can afford a 911!! On my way to Porsche store...............Nice logic Appstoremoney. |

Get the M235i with LSD. Cars are getting too big to cater for fat people with their massive rumps and stomachs.

LOL. I'm constantly amazed by the "If you can afford a $50K Car, then..." posts.

There could be other factors. Insurance premiums, states that have property taxes on cars (like VA, a more expensive car will have a more expensive annual tax bill), etc etc. I mean hell, I could've just gotten an M3 since the sticker price of my F30 was literally the starting price of an M3 but I chose the 335i...mainly because I didn't feel like waiting another 6 months until I wouldn't be forced to pay sticker for a well optioned M3. Sometimes you just gotta pull the trigger or you'll always be saving a little more for the "next" big thing. I could've done ED sure, but even then I didn't want to wait several months, waiting 6 weeks to get my F30 from Germany was long enough of a wait. |

I know you were being sarcastic and trying to be funny, but one could also save up for a helicopter. That might take years or decades, so it just makes a whole lot less sense. |

A year ago, I bought a $51k 328i, when I should have just maxed it all out and got a 335i... And yeah, waiting is painful. Turns out nobody maxes out the 328i, so I had to build mine, which took 4 months. |

if you are ok with the smaller engine of the 428i...look at the 228i with the track package...you could save a bundle of money.
I'm getting a 435i (picking it up in Munich next week) but if I was going to get a 2 series, I'd probably go with the 228i with track and get the PPK. I haven't run the numbers, but I bet you'd save a ton. Plus I hate the wheels on the m235i but the 228i track pack wheels look clean. |
