I am still not over my gas ⛽️ powered OG M2, but am looking forward in time, and considering the inevitable

I’ve personally have owned 5 EV’s in a 9 year span, so I am very comfortable with EV’s in general

What are your thoughts on owning a fully electric M2 in the very near future ?

Having no garage an EV is a non starter. That aside I plan on keeping my current M2 at least several more years.

The fun of owning an 80+ year old home in Seattle.

My current residence has a single car garage, which my M2 is blessed to reside within

My EV chargers outside in the driveway and it’s not a problem so don’t think you can’t own an electric car because you don’t have a garage

You’d just have to run 220 out to where the car is parked

Many electric car owners charge their EV’s outside, not inside

While charging outside is not ideal, for the most part it’s not an issue

It will be interesting to see how Porsche does with the upcoming 718 electric. It should be a good test of EV meets sports car. I think an M2 EV won't be around for quite awhile.

The Electric 718 has been under development for 13 years… Porsche is not screwing around

BMW will most likely follow Porsche’s lead, making the next gen M2 fully electric ⚡️ and having the M3/4 be plugin hybrids

Not something we can even consider in Aus. There is virtually no infrastructure currently & no one is doing much to change that so unless you charge from home & only commute short distances EV’s are not an option here.
I may eventually consider a small EV shopping trolley for the wife to run around in but I’m hoping “synthetic fuels” & the like will be a more attractive option by the time I’m forced into a decision regarding my performance cars.
What a lot of people are missing is that it’s not the ICE thats the issue but it’s the fuel source. Thus there’s no reason to move from an ICE to an EV if the fuel source is sustainable. I think this is a developmental area that is going to grow massively very soon.
The way I see things EVENTUALLY evolving is the average daily commuter will go EV but “fuel” will long be available (likely at a substantial price) for those of us that are prepared to pay for the joy of owning an ICE performance car/collectible car/track car/whatever.

I understand completely… Having one EV and one petrol ⛽️ is still a viable option for many people

And for synthetic fuels, there is huge promise on the horizon

Porsche is actively pursuing that very direction

they still need to work stuff out before i switch to EV

once they can make an electric m2 with the same weight, range, and charges up at a station in 5-10 minutes i think i would switch to EV for daily driving.

Absolutely makes sense… The good news is that’s really not too far away

always cracks me up about the "has to charge really fast" because for a daily you don't need it to even charge. How long is your commute that you need more than what most EVs already give you? 200 miles. Charge the thing at home, go to work, then come back home plug it in.

Weight will be more difficult, to get lighter EVs but at least the batteries are at the bottom, lowest center of gravity.

You are so correct it’s a lot like our cell phones. We charge our cell phones at home, being charged and ready before we get up.

That said, I have always topped off my EV’s at my townhouse on a simple 12a 110watt plug
