One or two people who speak the way you describe does not an entire people make. I'm from Ontario and have never, ever heard people speak that way vis-a-vis abbreviations. We're like you, we have geographical and individual variation.

Just look how foolish carbon tax is and how brighter countries never implemented this tax.
When's the last time your elected officials ever did anything that pander for votes or the lowest common denominator? And we're hardly "foolish" enough to accept the taxes... They're shoved down our throat.

Of course you are correct....there are widespread variations in regional dialect in all countries. That was just some tongue-in-cheek local background for a dealer abbreviating to the point of being incomprehensible to those not familiar with the pattern, which some, but not all, may use. The usage I've observed in the KW area in southern Ontario, after being married into the family for 35 years, does go far beyond one or two, however. Glad it's foreign to you as well...I have always found it disorienting.

We stand up and then it is dropped. We vote every 3 years so they are in and out of power fast. The one thing that really helps is we don't have subsides on products so if you by an electric car you pay the retail price and this includes imports or exports of any products. Our tax is for health and education etc.

Yes, it's all just meant in fun.....There seem to be two classic references on the matter 1) Winston Churchill's observations that "Americans and British are one people separated only by a common language."....and 2) Rex Harrison's recanting in My Fair Lady where we Americans get our comeuppance in one of the funnier asides in a musical lyric: (I hope everyone knows the tune to sing along with the below!)

Henry Look at her, a prisoner of the gutter,
Condemned by every syllable she ever uttered.
By law she should be taken out and hung,
For the cold-blooded murder of the English tongue.
Eliza Aaoooww! Henry imitating her Aaoooww!
Heaven's! What a noise!
This is what the British population,
Calls an elementary education. Pickering Oh,
Counsel, I think you picked a poor example. Henry Did I?
Hear them down in Soho square,
Dropping "h's" everywhere.
Speaking English anyway they like.
You sir, did you go to school?
Man Wadaya tike me for, a fool?
Henry No one taught him 'take' instead of 'tike!
Why can't the English teach their children how to speak?
This verbal class distinction, by now,
Should be antique. If you spoke as she does, sir,
Instead of the way you do,
Why, you might be selling flowers, too!
Hear a Yorkshireman, or worse,
Hear a Cornishman converse,
I'd rather hear a choir singing flat.
Chickens cackling in a barn Just like this one!
Eliza Garn! Henry I ask you, sir, what sort of word is that?
It's "Aoooow" and "Garn" that keep her in her place.
Not her wretched clothes and dirty face.
Why can't the English teach their children how to speak?
This verbal class distinction by now should be antique.
If you spoke as she does, sir, Instead of the way you do,
Why, you might be selling flowers, too.
An Englishman's way of speaking absolutely classifies him,
The moment he talks he makes some other
Englishman despise him.
One common language I'm afraid we'll never get.
Oh, why can't the English learn to set
A good example to people whose
English is painful to your ears?
The Scotch and the Irish leave you close to tears.
There even are places where English completely
disappears. In America, they haven't used it for years!
Why can't the English teach their children how to speak?
Norwegians learn Norwegian; the Greeks have taught their
Greek. In France every Frenchman knows
his language fro "A" to "Zed"
The French never care what they do, actually,
as long as they pronounce it properly.
Arabians learn Arabian with the speed of summer lightning.
And Hebrews learn it backwards,
which is absolutely frightening.
But use proper English you're regarded as a freak.
Why can't the English,
Why can't the English learn to speak?

OK everyone! Call out one "I'm like" just to show we have no idea what our language means or how to use it!

Yup, the "air conditioning tax" was introduced by the Feds in the mid 1970's around the time of the 1st OPEC induced oil crisis when air con was considered a bit of a luxury and an unnecessary waste of energy, so why not ding those who can afford it.
But, as we all know, once Gov't get hooked on a tax, it NEVER goes away.
So now, when even the cheapest shytbox comes std with air con and power everything, the tax is still applied to virtually every vehicle - even though, it has been shown that driving with air on consumes less energy than driving with the windows down.
Kinda surprised that the Obama Gov't hasn't glommed on to this innovative revenue source.

The initial pricing should be a fully loaded with all the packages as well. MT for $60,000 and xdrive for $63,00. If you build the car alone on bmw.ca, it comes out to be $57,445 with packges. So around 5.5k for all the performance parts, I think it is a pretty good deal. Ask the dealer to throw in some tire packages and tint....
