Back Seat Tray/Cup Holder
I took my 2014 EB M235i in for 10k servicing (where do the miles go?).
I walked around the showroom and looked at a nice M235i convertible they had. I happened to look in the back seat and saw this tray insert, which seems to snap in and out pretty easily. I'd never seen this cup holder before as mine just came with the naked tray in the back seat. Might be nifty when I have some passengers back there to have some drink holders vs. the big french fry tray back there now. • Did I get shorted this? Is it new, convertible-only, or have they all come with this? • Does anyone know if it can be ordered? I looked briefly online and didn't see it anywhere, but perhaps a dealer can get one. TIA! |

I'll nix it...don't want to actually encourage anyone to get back there with a drink in hand. LOL...just teasing a LITTLE.
Wish it was a small "snap in" box compartment with a lid to add some hidden storage..now that would not be hard to do. |

I also dislike that it sticks up so high and makes a bump in the backseat. My dog has a hard enough finding a comfortable spot back there!

May have to hit up the local dealer to see what they can dig up

I happened to be picking up something at a dealership today and me and the parts guy tried to track this down. We were able to look at the live site and locate the part via diagrams:
52 20 7 353 211 Unfortunately, when we went to order it, it said part not found. He basically told me it meant BMW had not released this to the dealers to be able to order yet and to check back in a couple weeks as this is a part on a such a new car. I'll call around at some other dealerships tomorrow and hopefully find it - though I suspect I won't have much luck - he even went so far as to show me the screen of him inputting the above part number and it saying 'not found'. He did strongly believe it would fit my 2014 228i, and was helpful on some other things I ordered as well. |

Update - I searched the parts catalog. Anyone know if the fact the the oddements tray part number being different betwen the 235 vert and my 228 means they are actually different parts? If so it seems unlikely the cupholders will fit

I hate you. Ok, maybe I'm just really jealous. I tried REALLY hard to get my US car specced this way, but it's apparently impossible to order in the states. Seems really dumb for BMW to build two different seat types, not sure why the 40/20/40 split wasn't just standard.

I just looked at a new 228i convertible in a showroom. Sure enough, back seat had the cup holder. I wonder if this is an upgrade being added to all new 2er's. I have an ED in May for a 228i, we'll see.

I have a insurance mess to deal with before I grab a build slot, but it's yours if you have not acquired it yet, I'd just want shipping/handling. Please PM me a reminder when you have a sec.

The coupe doesn't have the slot in the recess for this to clip into. It would probably fit, but not stay put.

This is standard on convertibles only.
Coupes come with the basic tray. From what I've read the parts are interchangeable so if you manage to order the cupholders they should snap in the coupe easily. |

Some clever person on this site should design one with a 3D printer and sell them. I'd really like a little organizer box there. I lost the drivers side glove box with all my driver assist gadgetry.

Right; the part numbers are completely different, and the cup holder is actually an insert into a tray specific to the 'vert.
