M235 > M2

Gotcha (kinda).

Actually, I almost pulled the trigger last fall on an 235 then caught word of the upcoming M2 and decided to wait. Now that the release is eminent, I think I might just call it and grab the 235.

No doubt the 2 has the potential to be a more engaging car. However, it seems that the 235 is will still be fun car plus its $10-15k cheaper and available NOW. I would still have another year to wait for the M2 and that might still be at MSRP (I would like to plan an ED).

Anybody else on the fence about ready to fall.

I think it depends if your are leasing or buying. You can lease and have fun now/decide later or wait for the buy. Either way, you'll have fun. :-)

I jumped on the 235 knowing it was going to be a great car, regardless of what the M2 was going to offer. Now my lease will be ending in perfect time to order the second MY. I would try to lease a 235, if you can negotiate well it basically will give you the option to buy at the equivalent of great financing or jump into the M2 at lease end.

Do we know for sure what it looks like, or still renders at this point?

I'm in the same situation. My lease will end during the M2's second MY... I think I know what will replace my 235 .

Garage List
I am thinking the same general shape but wider fenders front & rear, 4 exhaust tips, side fender vents & some front rear side aero effects.

The MSRP will have a huge impact on the thread topic.

Maybe it will look like M2 =/= M235I + 15k

I don't think I'd ever buy the M2 in it's first year because there will be no deals+I'd want to do ED. I'd lease a M235i and get a pretty good deal now and then get into the M2 it's second MY...or third.

Local dealer stated MSRP and probably no ED for the first year depending on demand and allocation. I would image most dealers will hold off on any deals for at least 6 months.

With that, I agree with $15K disparity until ~ 3/16 when dealers would start to offer ED?

For me:
M2=M235+$10K or M235+$15K>M2.

You know what... for $15k it's not that much more, considering you'll get alot of M performance bits standard. Just looking at the BMW site for M235i m performance parts.

MP brakes $2300. 20" rims 4750. MP exhaust 1200. MP LSD 2895.

Those alone are worth 11k... Plus a better engine, different M interior and exterior parts.

I mean for me, I don't go on track at all, I sit in traffic M235i is more than enough for me, especially in Australia there are speed cameras everywhere. BUT even then I've spent $5k in 2 weeks on different cosmetic parts already!

So yeah M2 won't be cheap, but if you're going to get all those parts done anyway may as well get the M2.

Not really cause.... that would be 11k minus what the stock parts are....which is probably 5 or 6

Also in case of the Perf brakes they are the same as the M sport ones just different dimpled/slotted rotors

Just curious if there is anyone still hanging on the fence? I am still holding out to see what the 2 is all about, but it really seems like the 235 is a very good option.

My car is closing on a decade old, and I REALLY would like a new ride. The M2 is still at least 10 months away. I can't..hold...out..much longer.

if you can wait and wait even more, you wouldn't just be holding out for M2 but also M240i, which is sort of 235 LCI. Can't lose either way IMO

I dunno... I've been driving my M235i around for just a few days now and it feels every bit as fast as my E90 M3 did. I don't see where the M2 is necessary anymore except for track use or the aggressive looks.

I lost interest in the M2 when I saw it was probably as wide as an M4, the size was the only reason for buying an M2 over an M4 so it looks like I'll be keeping my M135i or buying an M240i if they make one

After seeing what the M2 is going to be like... Still think m235i is perfect for 90% of the population including me.

I still think if you want to/need to buy a car you should do it straight away... You wait 6-9 months and wait and see what the car will be like or announced and have to wait for another 12 months before one even hit the road. You'd be enjoying it already!

Ps very much doubt there will be a m240. The m135i LCI didn't get a new engine or new name

I just ordered a 235 xdrive even though I'm #1 on my dealer's list for an M2 with a deposit down. I test drove the M235 and for my wife and I, I don't think we need more car. Especially since in New England, I would have to put snow tires on there and probably buy a beater pick-up truck for the really bad days.

Anyone want my spot on the M2 list?

I was in the same position and started a thread asking a very similiar question

http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showt...highlight=2016

My personal decision was to wait it out and ultimately go for the M2. In my circumstances, the car is a weekend only car (335i), one that I drive almost exclusively for pleasure and grins. Not that you won't get that with the 235, I drove one and it was an absolute blast, but I think we all agree that the M2 will be in a different league. So I decided to "live" with my perfectly fine and capable 6MT RWD twin turbo 335 for a few more months and reevalute later.

As far as the first model year concern, I generally agree with the concept. I am less concerned in this case - the M2 will sport the tried and true N55 and bring over some F8x suspension parts. Not that there isn't a risk, but this isn't an entirely new car. More like a collection of great components that I suspect will be greater than the sum of its parts.

The size of the M2 will match the 235 exactly, aside from the extra M body kit additions. The chassis size is not going to be like that of the M4.

So it all kind of depends on your situation. If you're like me - not in a rush, have a car you enjoy, don't daily drive, don't mind spending a few extra bucks - I recommend waiting. If those don't apply to you, pick up the fantastic 235 and enjoy.

I swear these threads are like a recast of all those the digital camera threads, where folks roam back and forth on whether or not they should "settle" for the 24MP camera, or wait for next year's 36MP version. For the great majority of the people talking about it, they'll never use the difference.

Just for comparison sake my flat mate drives a 1M, in terms of feel of the car the M2 would be someone similar... It's a great driver's car but it's too harsh for the daily grind. For a good thrash? I'd take the 1M any day of the week! But for everyday I'd take the m235i
