Also, time to update your sig!

I was one of the people initially going the most nuts about the lack of the oil or coolant temp in the cluster...and I stand behind my general assertion that this omission is just dumb on BMW's part...the cluster looks slightly "not completed" and isn't symmetrical as a result. It's definitely less than perfect.

With that being said...it is forcing me to pay better attention to how the engine "feels" through the throttle, and I think I am starting to get comfortable with that feeling and a warmed up engine.

My office is only 4 miles from my house, so I have no hope of any spirited driving with the morning as cold as they have been...but that should change for the better soon.

Crown Point - lovely area - went to grad school @ Valpo, so I know it well.

Nice review. Thanks for taking the time to do that.

My office is about 200 yards from D&R. I've been watching pretty closely for a 235i to show up in their inventory...haven't seen a 235 yet. I'm not sure how you sneaked out under my radar. Damn you.

Because if I order the car I'll get the tech package with the oil temp display...

It's probably not a big deal, but after 10 years of driving M cars, I am so used to looking at the oil temp gauge before I engage in spirited driving...Additionally, my M cars are naturally aspirated and the oil warms up very quickly. I've had extensive seat time in the 1 M, and it surprises me how long it takes for the oil to reach normal operating temperature (e.g., past the first dot on the left of the oil temp gauge) - 10 miles or so, and I live in Arizona!!

Does the manual say what the normal operating oil temperature should be for the N55? (I realize this information can be gathered by looking at the oil gauge for a 335i, but I don't have easy access to one!)

As Tony and Mike say on PTI - going to the glasses for this one!

There is nothing under oil, coolant, engine, or temperature that deals with the oil or coolant temperature - just things like adding more if they get too low.

So they obviously knew they left it out.

You must be somewhere around Keystone @ the crossing then?

My car came directly to me on a truck, since I ordered it from David Aviles in CA - but I will be on the north side of town this week. Me and my pops are going to bring the M235 to Cars and Coffee on Saturday morning.

I hear ya. The real question is... knowing what you know now and having the actual car in your hands, if you had it to do over again, would you plunk down the extra $2150 to get the tech package?

Sigh...for that amount of money, no - I don't think so. I mistakenly thought when I ordered the car that the bulk of the Tech Package was Navi - which I can get from my phone rather easily.

Had I known that I needed it to get the extended cluster, I would have to have given up something else to stay in the same price range - so it would have been Premium in my case. I am pretty sure I would have picked Premium, but still would have been pissed about the gauge missing.

I don;t think I could go without those mirrors...they make such a difference at night...

TKS for your review!
I'm always loving the MT, but the damn thing is that MT only comes with the least expensive variant of a series in China.

That's crazy! So you would only be able to get a 228i in manual??? The ZF transmission is very good (and my last 135 was DCT) but I am so glad I have a manual in my M235. I wonder if you could import one somehow??

I know it doesn't really help you Indy folks, but Basney BMW in South Bend has had a BSM 235 for over 2 weeks, and they also have an Alpine 228i.

I was very surprised to see it chilling in the back lot, but last time I was there it was out front on display. I'm surprised it's stuck around so long.

Totally forgot about Basney - I never get up that way.

Those are the types of dealers (where one is sitting around) where sometimes you can steal a good deal.

Don't think this has been mentioned in prior reviews, but how does the stock stereo sound? Still trying to decide if the HK is worth it, or if the stock is good enough for Pandora and FM.

great review!

Does the MT have rev matching feature and does it also have the hill-stop thing where the car does not roll back when clutch is disengaged (or something like that)

" I am not an "interior" snob in that it needs to do wild shit like massage my balls in order for me to like it" LOL

You are quite right - I should have mentioned this in the original summary.

I would say that it is roughly equivalent to what I have in the 135 - which was also stock. From what I understand, there are some relatively easy ways to upgrade the stock sound without changing the actual components - which just wouldn't look right in a car like this.

It is also my first venture into I-Drive, and it seems to work pretty well - things are laid out in a pretty logical manner, and I am finding things where I would expect to. So that's a plus.

The display screen is a bit awkward - with my radar detector in the middle, it makes your vision out of the middle of the window seem slightly compromised, but I am thinking it is something that I will get used to. I would fold it down if that were an option, but it isnt. :/

Rev match, no (unless I haven't turned it on somehow) - Hill assist, yes.

Great write up! I'd love to see how MT would do, even though the Sport AT that's standard on the M235 feels great up-shifting and down-shifting.

8 gears are just too many at least from my experience driving my moms 428i. Feels like you're in fast and furious
