I'm not defending anybody... it just amazing all the hate.... If he wants to hear a different exhaust sound inside the cabin... so be it....nobody else will hear it from the outside anyway.....
I get what you're saying - and I am not trying to hate on anyone...to me, it is just so fake that the idea itself seems kind of...well...lame. I mean, what is next? Making the 2er sound like a Ferrari 458 on the inside?

That's all I was trying to point out.

Yea but its just an audio file and ppl want to see what is like to hear something different other than the N55 file. There's also a ambient lighting with 2 diff colors and if there are other color files, ppl would want to see it thru coding. There is also diff welcome message on idrive that ppl code since they're within the files.

Its not about being a poser and cant afford an M car....stop it

Exactly, its like jail breaking an iPhone or rooting an Android. Why not do it if it is possible? You can always change it back to factory setting.

Yeah, I never said it was about being a poser - more that the idea of even more fake noise seems a bit funny to me. To each their own.

OK so I tried it out last night. changed model to F80 and changed engine to S55
. everything seems to be working correctly, here's some observations .

- new option is a lot louder, maybe even to much

- I think the original ASD option would set to a low volume when putting the car in comfort or Eco pro mode, but seems like the s55 option stays at the same level through all modes

-the original setting for the ASD ,I found to be subtle and wasn't always easy to distinguish it from the regular engine noise. with the s55 option I could definatly tell the sound was coming from the speaker

-its quite loud to the point I think it might be able to hear from outside if the windows are open

overall its fun to play with but its better on the original setting. I'm not familiar with all the BMW engine and body codes, can someone suggest some other options to try.

heres my crap video, taken on a Nexus 6, you can enjoy me driving like a idiot in glorious 4K

also can the people coming in this thread and only posting how much they hate ASD and think all new BMW owners are "posers" please go make your own "I hate electronic sound hurr durr" thread and stop hijacking this one. OP was obviously interested in this and your just filling the thread with hate and clutter for OP and others who are looking for info. at least post something that contributes to the thread :/

I like the sound of my Eisenmann Race exhaust roaring as I accelerate down the road in my 535i

You know I've succumbed to it being better than losing the sounds we love all together my f80 drives like a monster v8 and with active sound and good exhaust, sounds amazing. However as they refine active sound, I see it only adding to experoence. I'd love a real high revving v8 but if they will never make one again, I'd at least like to listen to one if it sounds real.

There is the ideal way and than the way that we will get some sound enjoyment.

Doesn't the i8 need to employ a 3 cylinder engine soundtrack to avoid posing?

Are the sound regulations that strict, though?

I mean, you can get an Alfa Romeo 4C from the factory without a muffler.

I wouldn't have a problem with the active sound if you could turn it off via iDrive instead of having to play around with codes.

Wait, let me get this straight
some people think that using ASD on a non M4 is fake?
well using that same sound on the M4 is just as fake
Who has confirmed that the sound you hear on the M4 is the actual sound of the engine in the M4?
Who says BMW ///M isn't just making up sounds to suit their image (or what's left of it)?

In my personal opinion this is a fantastic discovery! A big part of car ownership and driving is about how much enjoyment it brings you, and the overall aural experience plays a large part. It really doesn't matter to me if the sound is synthesized, just as long as it is convincing.

This is just the beginning of ASD, when car manufacturers scramble to lower CO2 emissions with smaller and more efficient engines... and the desire for a great aural experience more cars will come with ASD in the years to come. Don't hate, just embrace it.

Cuz M4 owners are superior to other bmw owners while they dont pose and they can afford a $60k car...so its ok that they have fake sounds

All others are just M4 wannabes and posers cuz they drive a less expensive car

I hear what you're saying.

It wasn't easy on the guy that told king Midas he was naked as the masses heaped praise on his new clothes but someone has to point it out and it's not always pleasant.

It is cool that everyone is embracing active sound but a few of worry that embracing fakery will just tell BMW to stop caring about real sound in their cars and that worries many of us. The 1M sounds great without fakery. It might drone a bit but it gives it character and proves that you can make turbo cars sound good.

I wasn't going to post anything here but but someone has to call out this "hater" thing. I just saw the Interview the other day and I'm not sure why everyone wants label and shun a difference of opinion. It's what separates us from places like North Korea.

the ASD is actually louder than the stock exhaust, so with windows open you hear the ASD more, you can still hear the poping of the exhaust
