Vaporware? I guess you haven't heard that deliveries have already been made in Europe.

Here's your vaporware

There have been all kinda of Alfas sold places that aren't the US. Rumors are that we won't get the 4C at all, and even if we do it will be 250-400 pounds heavier than the ROW car.

The TT-RS had a bespoke engine, unique Haldex settings and they only sold 1,400 in the US, not exactly tons more, just twice.

I've driven both, but I prefer the 1M, just not at the current price premium, especially given that the TT will almost certainly hold it's value better over the next few years. There are no short term plans to replace it, unlike the 1M and nothing in the US is using the five cylinder either.

You said it was vaporware which means it exists on paper only. That's flat out wrong. Whether it gets to the US is a different matter. Even with the extra weight, the car is still considered lightweight. The 4C is a true sports car. It's not perfect but there is room for improvement.

The M2 is rumored to come with a 2.0l motor. The car will be larger, have a slightly longer wheelbase to eliminate the tail happiness characteristic of the 1M. Expect extensive use of CF to reduce weight and about the same horsepower to meet emissions and fuel economy requirements. Will come with a DCT so expect slightly better track times than the 1M but not by much. The 1M will always hold a special place in history where as the M2 will be mass produced and relatively easy to come by on the used car market.

John
I'd go for the Cayman or CLA45 AMG then.

Odds just got a lot better with Fiat buying the remaining share of Chrysler though. Rumor was that if Chrysler did an IPO, we'd never see Alfa back here. Here's hoping there's a chance we get it here.

I'd love to see it here, but I've felt that way about many Alfas.

Because too big. Same problem as with Porsche Cayman and 911. The smaller car with equal power and less weight but also lower will outsell the bigger one. Imagine M2 with same engine as M4 but lighter and cheaper? Who would buy the M4? Imagine Cayman with same 400 PS 3.8l Flat6 as Carrera S, who would buy the 911?

If m4 and m2 were same price with same engine id buy the m4 though. Better equipment and bigger inside sounds better to me.

It's clear where bmw thinks the money is, 4 series has been out for how long? 6 months? and m4 already out.

Then why buy the M4, & just not a 435is..?

I know several people who do not want an M4, but are waiting on seeing what the M2 brings. If you going to move up to an M4's size, why not just get a new Mustang, or Corvette?

This is crazy talk! I owned both a TT-RS and a 1M at the same time and I got rid of TT, and took an ass whipping on it! 1M is the only new car I've ever had that gained value. Plus on the track the all wheel drive, front wheel bias was terrible. Audis answer was spend more money for new Haldex and away bars. Screw that!

I like the 2 a lot and may get a M 235 but it will never have all the "stuff" going for a 1M has. And before you bring up the fact that M235/M2 will out run a 1M think about it. My 1M will kill a E30 M3 but that hasn't stop the prices on those from going crazy. I sold my E30 M3's too soon!

Buy what you want for whatever reason, but a 1M is a known quality car with all the right stuff! M245= mass produced, m2=who knows if they will make it, TT=RS= please, get real!

An M4 will be cost prohibitive to me. And it's just too large of a car - not that it won't be awesome, but I would want something a little more compact and smaller.

M2 seems to be the best choice for that recipe.

+1, a front engine with Haldex is a fatal flaw in any sports car.

My prediction is that the M235's 'blend' styling and the M2's jacked up I4, will make the 1M a keeper.

1M or M2? There is another possibility.

Just my preferences,

I owned a 2002 tii, a 533i, an E36 M3, an E60 M5 and now drive a 135i M Sport mit Power Kit. I know the differences between an M car and a Series car with an M package. That being said, I would consider a M235i with a port installed limited slip over a 60K 1M. Its lap time at The Ring is quicker. It would be new, have a four year warranty, have four year maintenance, and it would be less expensive. For the purist, the 1M is 300 pounds lighter, has more power, and would be more sideways fun, but a lap time at The Ring does not lie. That being said, I am waiting for and M2 and will only be dissuaded if I can't pick it up in Munich. I am not partial to dealer market adjustments. It's less than two years away and I believe the M2 will exceed my expectations.
