Lacking is the wrong word IMHO, it`s just different.

I have owned an E46 M3, an E92 M3, which I traded in for my current 1M (which is by far the best Bimmer I`ve ridden)
Then the Cayman came along, it was a must have for me, even lighter compared to the 1M, and look at that exterior WOW.

Why these 2 cars?
The 1M is the best the brand had offer in some years, it is also limited and not available anymore, it can carry 4 persons easally, has mighty low rev high torque with makes it a blast to drive, thanks to the 6 IL TT, 6 speed manual, also "old fashioned " hydraulic Power steering, beautiful daily driver.

The Cayman GTS is more the car for the weekend IMHO, light, screamer, 6 flat NA, very very rev happy, middle engine mounted concept, just 2 seater, but I`ll drive mostly alone, fabulous PCCB`s (ceramic brakes) which makes the 1M brakes just medieval in that respect, Electrical Power Steering ( not in a bad manner, its good, I mean very good), PDK, PASM and PTV, just as fine as a daily driver

It` just a different concept, but IMHO these 2 cases are the best from each brand so far ( GT3 excluded off course), the best German engineering has to offer, that is why I wanted both cars.

Now the M2 could be, I repeat, could be a successor to the 1M, of course no details leaked yet, let alone official BMW info, but I`ll wait in patience and wil make a comparison and descision.........

2014 Ford Focus ST is my daily driver. Been eyeing an '01 E39 M5 or a new M235i to hold me over as a weekend car.

Thanks, my dad bought it new in '85, it started life as his daily and slowly over time became a full blown track car. I grew up building this car and now I can't wait to get it back on the street.

Same here. My 2013 lease is up right before production starts, so I may have to wait for when my wife's Z4 lease is up.

My current fun car, don't plan on parting with it...either adding an M2 or moving on. Depends on how I like the car. It's gotta be more impressive than the F8x. Being smaller and lighter is a plus.

I have one also. This thing is more fun that my F30, plus easier to get around and no $$$ on gas!

If it's nice out, I'll take my 2014 M235i, if it's crappy outside, I'll take my winter beater, a 97 Audi A4. Beater cost me $450 from a friend with 176k miles, in 5 months, I've kept 6k miles off my BMW, can't beat that.

1M coupe and M3 e30 gr A rally car.

M2 will not replace either one. It comes next to it. But if the M2 gives me the same fun or more than the 1M coupe the 1M will be sold after a few months otherwise it will stay.

I might buy in 2018 one of the last M2 again to drive new again. There is a big chance the next m2 will be a hybrid or a 4 cil etc. I am certainly not interested in an Hybrid M then the M2 and 1M coupe will not be sold ever. Then it s time to spend my money on other things if hybrid comes into play.
