Looking great, I think this is the next BMW for me, that is if I decide to go with BMW for my next car. Porsche Cayman GT4 is calling my name

The raw simplicity and ACTUAL racing heritage sets it MILES ahead of anything since the e30 ///M3 which had similar success
Similar success? The E30 M3 is the most winning car in touring car history.

The E9 was similarly dominant in the early '70s

Sips Tea...
It will require efforts to overcome beholding only this part of a Cayman GT4 when driving on a track.

For all the right reasons. What a car !

Too bad that my wife kindly 'torpedoed' my Cayman GT4 talks with a P-dealer. If I were single without children, the order would have been registered in the meantime (and yes, I had the certainty of securing one).

I would take one E9 CSL over receiving two M2's tomorrow. The last thing I would be thinking about is it's lack of Laser beams and butt warmers.

Except that a collector grade E9 CSL is worth $$$$ and continuing to go up. It will be an appreciating asset. The M2, no.

That said, I would drive the m2 without reservation. The E9 I'd always be thinking about what if some loser hits me and there goes my extremely valuable collector car.

Ahh...investing in vs. driving the car you have.

I see your point. However how can DD-ing an E9 be better than the creature comforts in a modern car, including the driving dynamics and safety features???

The beauty of driving a car like an e9 is in the simplicity. There is nothing to do in that car except drive. That's what the focus was on in those cars and what BMW has lost today. I learned this after owning my euro e24 for a while. It's not fast, doesn't handle incredibly, but everything is so simple and mechanical that it's a joy just driving down the road at a regular pace. It's a change from the regular daily grind. That said, it's not my every day car. It's nice to have the modern luxuries for a change too. An e9 and an M2 would be perfect stable mates.

Also, what's the point in owning a car if you don't drive it? I have an e30 M3 for investment purposes, but I still drive it plenty. Sure, it won't be the most valuable one in the end, but I'm sure it won't ever depreciate. After a certain age, mileage is irrelevant except on the top 5% or so of the original cars out there. Condition is king otherwise.

Couldn't agree more.
I know a chap with 2 e9 CSL's among other cars and he still drives and enjoys them. They are stunners, and yes, I would easily choose an e9 CSL and an e46 CSL over the new M4 and M2. Wouldn't be a difficult choice at all really.
New school will never feel or make one feel as the old school does.
And before you think I am a grand oldie, I am 26.
Just comes with understanding and appreciating

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to drive it, but the looming feeling of worry would ruin it for me. Some turd would be texting, blow a light, and t-bone me in my expensive, rare E9 CSL and it would total the car and probably severely injure me. That sortah thing happens all the time, and I'd rather it happened in a modern car with modern safety equipment that can all be replaced without undue heart-ache.

I'm also 26! It's not about age when it comes to this.

I understand the want for safety, but you have to live a little. I won't let that stop me from driving the cars I'm passionate about. For a daily driver, yes I totally understand it.

In other news, the author of an "M2 render" article on BMW Blog is arguing that the front bumper will look nearly identical to the M4's and not follow the Vision GT6.

What the hell are they smoking over there?

Here's that, "M2" render. Maybe it's the M2 diesel version ?
