So I ran into a problem today that I didn't expect at all: when I went to pick up my M235i today -- with which I did ED -- the dealership refused to remove the plates citing possible damage to the clear coat, and they referred me instead to a body shop. They said I would have to cover the costs of removing the plates myself.

Has anyone else run into this? I'm thinking about going to another dealership in the area to see if they'll be nicer. And soon too. Because even though my real WA plates are in the rear windshield, I feel like having the temp EU plates on the front and back are going to make my car a cop magnet until I can get it fixed.

They used Tape up front I'm guessing? Depends on what kind of tape they used. They installed it, they should be responsible if they didn't get your approval . I replaced my tape with tape that's easy on the paint as soon as I got home. Shouldn't the plates be removed anyways when they ship it back stateside?

Sorry, I should've been clearer in my original post. The EU plates are still attached, and those are the ones the dealership doesn't want to remove because they're stuck on both the front and the back with double sided tape.

And per BMW instructions, the normal procedure is supposed to be to leave the EU plates on the car until it arrives at the dealership. If you get them taken off early, that's a mistake by the VPC.

I just finished doing it myself. Took nearly 30m to get the adhesive strips off the front bumper. I used a credit card and a small amount of WD40 for the really tricky bits.

Floss to cut through the tape and goo gone to remove it. Easy. Next time buy from a dealership that isn't run by numbskulls.
