I was part the discussion and testing over there.

v7 is out with a few updates. 6cyl timing refreshes much faster and seem to show more uniform timing across the cylinders now.

AvgIGN still seems to learn up more than v5. Though the consensus is that it's only doing that because it's more accurate with 6cyl timing enabled.

I recommend that's what you do. I did the same so the grommet can be used to seal around the wires.

I was worried that if water were to get on the wires (washing, rain, etc) that the water would run down the wires and past the firewall and into the cabin.
