Hello from Minnesota

Hello, figured I just purchased a used 2014 M235i last week and wanted to post and introduce myself. Prior to owning this car, I used to play a fairly active role in the Focus community with my supercharged 2002 Ford Focus ZX3. I've spent a long time searching for "right" car for me and never really thought I'd find something in my range I loved to drive with a roundel on it.

Not that I'm expecting fanfare but the old ZX3

Still putting together a list of things... performance wise I'm thinking a tune of some sort, full exhaust, and intake. Seems like the route most people are going to get decent gains and if I change into something else in the future, moving back to stock will still be pretty easy.

I actually started a list of all the different manufacturers I've found that I'm planning on posting eventually as a guide to try to help others.

I performed a few cosmetics last night, black kidney grills and new reflectors:

I'll be swapping out wheels in the spring, just trying to decide if I want to go darker or lighter wheels.

Brake dust is a big factor, unless OP switches brake pads.

True, anything you pick will be brake dust charcoal after a couple of days. The BBS SR that I run in the winter actually don't look horrible with a bit of dust on them, to give you an idea of color to go for if you can't clean them every other day.

Beautiful car. I'm trying to figure out the photo locations. Nicollet Island under the Hennepin Ave bridge? Maybe a pull off on East River Road?

This looks very close to what I'll be picking up in March at the PCD in Spartanburg. I had a very difficult time with color, and finally wound up with Mineral Grey. I've been gathering some parts, already for installation as soon as I get it. BMW M style grille with the German Racing colors in the grille. Got a pair of carbon fibre mirror covers, and the shark fin antenna cover. I have some 3M carbon fibre wrap for the roof, since I did a moonroof delete. Also getting the M Performance carbon fibre/Alcantara interior trim, since I didn't like any of the offerings. The last items are the side marker light replacements. I didn't know about these originally, but now I like the look, and the side markers really look bad on about anything other than Orange or Red.

Looking at wheels myself, too. About made up my mind on Apex wheels, and retaining either my 225 x 40 front tires, or switch the rears to the front with the 235 x 35's and going 255 x 35 in the rear. With the 225 x 40's, I'd go with the 245 x 40's for the rear. I'm leaning that way. I love the low look, but not the Iowa holy roads, as well as my driveway getting to my garage. It's a dip that I'm not sure I could negotiate being 1/2" lower in front. The 40 series will fill up the wheel well better too. Decision isn't final yet.

Anyway, nice car there.

Welcome

Congrats. FWIW I looked for a year for the right car. I moved from an E46 M3 and had planned on going "up to" a E92 M3. Just couldn't find the right combo for what I could afford.

Ultimately I chose the same car you did. I'm two months into it and love the car. I'm still sorting out the technology pieces and getting used to the extra torque

Cheers.

Car looks great.

I just picked mine up from Minnetonka BMW three weeks ago. Love it! Mineral White shown below after delivery and with the obligatory winter wheels and tires.

Brake dust? Are the brake pads on the M235i significantly different from those on the 228i M-sport? I have over 1500 miles on my 2; brake dust has been a non-issue -- less than pretty much any car I can recall (I have silver wheels).

Must be the THP on the 228i MSport, which is what I have. The brakes appear to be the same as the M235i. I clean them with a microfiber duster or Griot's Speed Shine almost daily and give them a full washing about every 2 weeks.Brake dust is a problem for me! (also borderline OCD)
