Question M240i Pricing change after deposit - True or False

Hi everyone,

*Notes: This is my first time / first car I custom ordered so I'm unsure the rules for after deposit and agreement*

I recently ordered an M240i and today my sales rep emailed me this regarding my build "BMW EU said that as of the new year, there is a slight price increase – which is why it’s showing the 770 for mirror caps and 2995 for LSD but it will reflect this way on the window sticker as well for all M240’s that are built this year. "

Given that, when I signed the paper for with two accessories:
Mirror caps: $650
LSD: $2500

Change in price
$120 + $495

I'm unable to see the price change anywhere so those who have ordered an M240i please chime in.

I hope this isn't shady practice by the dealer because to my understanding once you negotiate pricing and both parties sign off then they must honor it regardless of any "price changes"

Correct, you pay what was on the paperwork when you signed it. It's a legally binding document. If it had the lower price, they either honor it or you cancel your order. When I ordered my m240i it was a month before the price increase for the paint and stuff. I asked my sales rep and he said it doesn't affect me because it changed after the paperwork was signed.

Joe240, thank you so much for the quick response.
I placed the order on 01/07/2017.
Given everything you said here... I should pay not a penny more for my same exact build.

Do they have the right to cancel my order if I do not agree to accept the changes?

The only way you should "pay more" is if a program like loyalty which isn't lockable is not avail when you take delivery. Price you negotiated should not change.

That said is that stuff port installed or dealer installed? If it's dealer installed I could maybe see a case for price at time of delivery if it's not included in the build sheet, but even then they shouldn't screw you for less than 1% of the car price and should just eat it.

I custom offered a 2014 235 but a 2015 235 came in ( I was informed pre delivery ) and there was a slight price increase and I payed it.
So is it a matter of the dealer pumping up the price? maybe. But if you were in business and your supplier bumped up the price on an item, would you like to be able to inform the customer and have them agree to the price change?

I agree, I think believe they should eat it but let's find out tomorrow!

"We’ve gotten BMW to add the LSD to your car build"
I assume port based on that answer?

If I were the business I would have taken the hit because a return customer is better than a 1-time customer.

You signed paperwork, and put down a deposit. I wouldn't accept the increase.

I don't know where you live, but there does seem to be more competitive pricing for BMWs nowadays. If there is another dealer not too far away, you likely have another option.

I'm 99% sure it's port installed but you could get an identical answer simply bc they weren't sure if they could still make changes to your build after submitting, LSD wasn't avail for a while so weren't sure if they could get it to begin with, etc. good luck with it.

The mirror caps are easy to add later but honestly for $100 or whatever I don't know that it's worth your time. Unlike just changing to body colored where they pop on and off, of carbon OeM you need to actually pull the mirror and screw around inside bc you need screws. I wouldn't fuck around with it personally you break something in there and it's gonna cost way more than that. Worst case suck it up on the mirrors and make them honor the LSD, I'd make that concession in the interest of keeping the deal together and horse trading on a small item.

Great news everyone! The dealership decided to "help" me out and kept my same build at the same price.
