Display gear number in non-manual modes?

So I just bought an m235xi (picking up tomorrow). I'm coming from a DCT 135i. One thing that I really liked about the 135i was that even in automatic modes it would display what gear I was in (D1, D2, D3, S1, S2, S3, etc).

Is this possible to replicate on the M235xi

Not while in D, but yes for S1, S2 etc and M1, M2 etc...if you optioned the sport transmission I believe. If not, someone will correct me.

Mine's not been coded and I get S1...M1...etc. Why would he need to code?

Maybe it changed in the latest i-steps... before in S mode you would only see S same as in D you only see D

I get S1, S2, S3, etc in mine, no coding required. Just D though, which it would tell me the gear too, I found that useful in my IS 250.
