Exclamation PSA: reconfirm orders for July allocations

If you did not order the Park Distance Control (508) option for your car, you can probably ignore this thread. If you did, read on...

I got a call from my CSA this week telling me that BMW made an error with some (maybe all) July allocations of the MY18 M240i. He was adding some options to the car to be installed at port when he noticed a new item on the order sheet: Parking Assist Deletion (ZOC).

It appears that the factory had some issue with their systems, and folks who ordered Park Distance Control (508) didn't get Parking Assistant (5DP) added to the order like the package dictates. BMW is removing $50 USD off of MSRP to reconcile the error, but they aren't proactively notifying dealerships. FWIW, even if you didn't really care for the Parking Assistant feature, that feature cost $500 USD for MY17 and earlier.

Thankfully, my CSA has given me the option to walk away from this car and reorder using an August allocation. I'm holding out to see if BMW will do more to make up for the error, since they're effectively pocketing $450 for nothing.

Even if you double and triple checked your orders before they started production, check again. My car was an M240i coupe, and I'm not sure if this affects M240i Xdrive or 230i coupes/convertibles. I suspect it might, but YMMV.

Thank you for this information.
I checked my vin on http://bimmer.work/ and it says 508 but no 5DP (also I don't see ZOC either). Does it mean I have the same issue?
(Looks like on the order guide it does say “508 will add 5DP to the order. Note: 5DP - Parking Assistant”, but the official order sheet I have does not include it.)

is my order sheet, which shows:
1. 508 for park distance control
2. no 5DP for parking assistant
3. ZOC for parking assistant deletion (and -50 to MSRP)

You should ask your CA to print out an order sheet from BMW within the past week to confirm/deny if this impacted your car too.

Something similar apparently just happened to me. Parking assistant removed by factory - however I don't see a delete code. JUst doesnt show on the Bimmerwork site. My CSA said he had to email BMW and has "a new car going into production ASAP". Sounds like I just wasted a month.

What's "ASAP" here? My CA said that there were no allocations for September. The only modifiable allocation would be for October, which is a long time to wait

Had a production number, factory code 150 and a vin number the day after he said ASAP. Completion target date was August 16th. Now I have a new production number and a scheduling

production code. Lost a month.

Now the new configurator is up, and the PDC worth 800 should include parking assistant. So I just lost 450 because of the system? Any suggestions about what I can do

- Live with it and ask BMW for compensation for their screw-up.
- Back out of the current order and re-order?

I'm fine living with it since I have had such long wait. Who should I talk to? My local sales or BMW NA? This seems to be a really really subtle thing, both of them looks like they are just going to pass the buck and ignore the fault

Not sure I understand and now concerned about my build. Did you mean PDC with park assistant?

I would do both and complain to the dealer as well as open up a case with BMW NA. It isn't really the dealer's fault but a BMW corporate screw-up, however the dealer may have some connections higher up in BMW NA that may help getting a positive outcome.

So my dealer refuses to do anything about it... While I've been waiting a few months, I can't do anything about it as well. Going to call BMW NA tomorrow see what they can do.

Well, looks like BMW USA is not currently offering the Parking Assistant on the m240i at all on the online configurator. Not as a part of the PDC option or in any other form. This seems like a non-US option for 2er and a screw-up in the ordering system when the 2018s were first available to order. Try BMW NA, but don't hold your breath. Their preferred course of action in these instances is stonewalling.

However, when I called NA, they actually acknowledge Parking Assistant does come with PDC. But they said they can't force the dealer to do anything. My dealership just refuses to admit it was a mistake. So I gave up. This was just too much.

That's a bummer. Either BMW NA has bad info, or the online config is off. Has anyone that has taken delivery of a 2018 in the States mentioned anything about their car having a parking assistant?

No, I think it's related to timing. My August allocation had adaptive headlights in the build and it still got removed. Maybe they fixed it in September. Plus, there weren't any modifiable allocations available to resubmit the order, so the dealership I'm working with reduced the sale price a bit to entice me to keep the current order.

FYI, online configurator has many errors and is missing many options. I would recommend going by the build sheets. My car just arrived in US and had Park Assist without having the Adaptive Headlights
