For me, the $31,500 I will net after the auction was by far the highest offer I had received, so I took it.

My point is, when a dealer is willing to pay more for the car than private buyers are, something is "askew." There just seemed to be very little interest in the car at all, regardless of price. I had dropped the asking price to $35,000 in the final two weeks, which I assume is less than or similar to what a dealership would ask for it, and there were still no bites.
Auction is best to sell at this time of year (tax season), also dealer will usually offer less than auction value unless they have a buyer or a market in retail. Otherwise they are running it to auction themselves. Sounds like the bmw dealer may have someone looking for a manual or knows thier market will sell it.

Enjoy the M2, on my list after the lci or end of life cycle.

This is the reason I'm going M2 over M240. Especially here where I live, non-M cars get hammered on resale.

I pay cash for my cars so financing fees are not part of the equation. Buying new and trading every couple of years will keep you poor. I also take outstanding care of my cars and sell them privately with complete records. Great cars get top dollar to an educated buyer. Just picked up a new M240i to start the cycle again. Nice car...
Yup, I used to be "that guy" losing money every 2-3 years swapping out cars. I searched, reseached, and repeated many times before making my commitment to purchase my next car (a CPO M235i or new M240i). It'll be paid off in 10 months and the feeling of being debt free is something that no new car can make you "feel". At the end of the day, I made the move on the m-counterpart with the reliable and proven N55 and the confidence in my decision is still pretty strong. The M2 wouldn't have been an option, unless $20k more, and a 12+ months wait..

I got such a steal of a deal on the car, I could probably sell it next Spring and recoup most of my cash. At the end of the day, she's a keeper and I have no issue watching new cars launch, I'll just sit back and ride the wave until technology takes another turn. This is the most analog and "manual" sports coupe I could find, and it's only going to become more unique (to me) as everything goes LED display, autotragic, etc..

I'd be equally as comfortable with the m240 as well!

Just to close this thread out on my personal experience, it ended up costing me almost exactly $26,000 to move from the 2015 M235i to my 2017 M2. Worth every penny.

Good for you that you can afford it... and good for BMW for profiting twice...

Thanks! Everybody wins!

Just got back from a nice drive down Sunset Boulevard to the ocean and back. Can't help but smile the entire time! This car is so fantastic and it sounds insane! Thank you God please let me live long enough to enjoy this car fully...

I'd kill my car 1st.

Then scoop up an M2.

This sentiment rings very true. My health tanked recently, and I wish I could get out and enjoy my car sooo much more. Hopefully by year's end

Want to field this out there since prices are being discussed.

I got a non-BMW dealer offering me a 2015 M235i 6MT for $32,500. It has about 23k miles on the ODO. Original MSRP $49,500 approx.

Clean Carfax, clean car.

What do you guys think?

Inspection at BMW dealer first - then ask me what I think.

If that's the case, they sure aren't passing the savings to the buyers ;-) I think $51k is the cheapest used M2 I've seen, and it was a 2016 in unknown condition with >15k miles.

Sure but put a new set of tires on and certify the car there's not a ton of meat left on the bone even at $6k bid/ask spread.

MSRP with options was $51,295. I got a 6% discount and paid $48,200 in April 2015.

It has 7500 miles, stored winters, never driven in rain, and is in perfect condition. None of that matters really when talking to a dealer about trade in.

At $26K it has retained 55% of its value after less than 2 years. By MSRP, it's 50%.

Part of the decision to go with BMW was that I thought they had good resale value. In comparison, I paid $26K (MSRP) for my 2005 Mustang and sold it privately 10 years later in 2015 for $11K. It kept 42% of its value after 10 years.
That's a complete joke! The car is worth more than that. Dealers try to screw people badly on trades. Choose a different dealer or sell privately.

The used car market is saturated. The only M235s fetching decent used money right now are good condition 6MTs. They sell for 10-15% higher on average.

That's not far off what I paid for my '14 M235i back a year ago with 20k on it

I'm still that guy. Last weekend I looked at 2 cars and almost did the deal. I go through cars about every 1-2 years. Sometimes I roll over and sometimes I break even on the trade, but never on the mods of course.

I think I've had like 8 cars in the last 9 or 10 years.

I always buy used so the car has already depreciated a good bit. That and my low interest rates (I have 1% on my CPO m235i) makes it a little easier to swap cars frequently.

I plan on semi-retiring in the next 3 years though so I won't be able to live this life much longer haha.

Edit: another reason the used BMW market is bad right now (for sellers) is that BMW has had really good leases on new cars for the last few years. I think I read that 2/3 of BMW drivers lease. Why buy a used BMW at 'x' price per month when you can lease a new one for 'x' price per month.

SOme here are asking 40k for a used m235? NO way you will ever get that.

2 years ago I paid 40k flat for a new (eruo delivery) m235i with sun roof, auto and super sports. It was new and paid what some of you are asking for used. Good luck w that. Its just never going to happen

Also depends on the area. These types of cars go for a premium in SoCal for instance.

Odd post. Sunroof and auto are standard features and MPSS is a no-cost option. In other words it's about $45k MSRP. I don't think I saw anyone asking $40k for a 2014 in the last few months.

There are a couple cars where people are asking mid-high $30s for fully optioned low mileage examples with a full array of m-performance bits and/or aftermarket additions. Basically cars that cost $60k to put together new. It's really comparing apples and oranges.
