JB4 EWG v3.2 firmware just posted

JB4 EWG v3.2 firmware just posted

Just a heads up for you JB4 EWG guys. v3.2 firmware was just posted which includes a revised map 1. The new map 1 has special logic that allows increased performance and smoother operation. Especially on PPK equivalent cars like the M235. The best part is map 1 does not require the EWG connector.

Early feedback has been really positive so I'm curious to see what the 2 series crowd will think of it.

I would go over to N54Tech and ask in the thread, but if we're running down pipes and 93 Octane, what's recommended now? Map 1 or Map 2?

We're any "smoothness" changes made to Map 2?

I have been running the new firmware for about a week because I was looking around n54 and stumbled across the thread where terry was looking for m235's to run some logs before he released it I guess. Map 1 is way better than before, better mid range power and the overall power delivery is smoother imo but I don't feel any difference in map 2. I wanted to switch back to the old firmware to make sure but hadn't had a chance. I am hitting 15 pounds of boost in 4th gear on map 1 with this new map.

Awesome thanks for the response. I'll install fw now and run map 1 for a while.

I use a mac and have always had the issue of not being able to update firm ware or log anything. When I get the Jb4 I just want to set it and forget it and leave it at Map 1. If I order it in the next month or so will it come updated with the latest firmware or do I need to go to a tune shop or find someone with the correct computer set up to update for me?

Installed this today. Second time I started my car got this. I've had the EWG and FF wires off for a while now and haven't had the errors in weeks. After this firmware it just came back.

I'd like to know this as well. I plan on getting the JB4 also, prob stage 2.

I have few qwk questions:

1. If I'm only installing the JB4 on a stock M235i, do I need the EWG connector ? and what are FF wires ?

2. If I get JB4 in few months etc, does it come with latest software, and if yes, do i just install it, or does someone have to install software in after hardware installed ?

3. If I plan on leaving car stock, except for JB4, does stage 2 apply ? or is stage 2 only for cars equipped with upgrades ?

4. what is power output for each map, and what map does everyone typically use/run ?

5. has the hesitation problem been fixed with the JB4, where ppl were having issues with knocking @ gear changes ?

thanks!!!!

I got it once after I upgraded the firmware and it never came back.

Do these newest JB4s still require you to have to tap a wire?

Here are your answers.

1. If you are going stock, you don't need the EWG harness. But the FF harness is included as default now.

2. Usually you will get the latest firmware, but it is always safe to get the DATA cable for future firmware updates.

3. Stage 2 only applies to the modded cars and on 93+ octane.

4. Power output on map 1 is up to 40whp and 50wtq. And map 2 is up to 60whp and 70wtq. Usually without mods, map 1 is recommended. map 2 is when you have a catless downpipe. The rest is when you heavily modded the car.

5. I personally never felt this. But, based on the new firmware, it seems the map 1 have better mapping now.

If someone else have better info, feel free to correct me also.

Changes were made to Map 1 only. Map 2 is unchanged. If you have a CEL read the code via the JB4 interface so you can find and fix the cause.

What does your gut tell you the power differences would be on an otherwise unmodded car throughout the RPM range for a 2 year old BMS Stage 1 (which I have) vs. a JB4 map 1 with the new updates?

2013 models are not EWG so this latest update won't effect you. Although, there is talk of a revised map 1 for non-EWG models as well.

I was going to put my bms stage 1 from my 2013 335i onto my 2015 m235i which arrives next week which is why I was asking....wouldn't that make a difference?
