New m240i!

Just picked up my 2018 m240i. Custom order, went through BMW of Springfield NJ and highly recommend them. I'm coming out of a MG 2015 235 so there's some familiarity and trying to get used to the differences. Here's my build:

Mineral White
Black Sensatec
Black wheels with MPSS
6 MT
Premium Package
HK Stereo
Apple Carplay
Black Grilles
Carbon Fiber mirrors/spoiler

Some observations so far (minor gripes as overall I'm very happy):
- I can definitely feel the additional torque on the low end
- Rev-matching seems pretty annoying so far, been driving stick for 23 years and feel I have to change the way I drive a little.
- Apple Carplay looks pretty useless and sorry I got it
- Don't like how you can't continuously scroll through radio presets. Once it gets to the bottom you have to scroll back up. On my 2015 you could circle back around.

Here are some pics - anyone know how to remove the stupid 'star' the dealership put on the rear there? Is it just a sticker I can gently peel off? Or more intensive surgery is required? So pissed I forgot to tell them not to do that!

Great car! I HATE when dealers stick their advertising on my car. I would take it back to the dealer and have them remove the star. I have similar gripes about my M240i but still love it. So much fun!

Congrats! You can heat the sticker up with a head gun or a hair dryer and peel it off without damage your paint at all. I had my dealership to get rid of the sticker they put on my car and they just used a heat gun.

Take it back, tell them to remove it and if they damage the paint they pay for a respray

No one should ever accept this horrible practice

Very nice. Use Xenit to remove it. Spray on, wait a few minutes and use a plastic razor blade. I removed 10 of these from a Jeep Wrangler I detailed, no problem.

Beautiful car! Many congrats.

I test drove a M2 and thought I did not like the rev matching. But don't focus on that, it's a mindset. It is a modern enhancement, so try to look at it that way and I bet you come to be fine with it.

I hate dealer stickers, but that one looks kind of cool.

Great car - many congrats.

Can the rev matching be coded off?

Also I have turned on CarPlay a few times, hated it, turned it back off. Sometimes I've had to forget and reconnect the phone to get it back to a usable state.

I'd like to be able to use my Apple Music but so far haven't found a way that I like, and Sirius is pretty good.

Congrats on the car and welcome! I found the same with CarPlay on my wife's new MiniCooper Countryman (same BMW software, apparently) and turned it off. Never tried to turn it on with the new 3 Series we also just got. CarPlay is a real PITA.

Thanks everyone! Dealer said they'll remove the sticker when I go to pick up my plates.

If it makes you feel any better half the time when you say no sticker they put it on then remove it. The pre-delivery prep guys are on autopilot with the routine.

OP - gorgeous car! Mineral white is one of my favorite colors.

I've seen a lot of negative experiences about CarPlay on the forums, so I seem to be one of the few who actually like it. I selected this as an option on my soon-to-be-delivered M240 and I'm quite excited to use it on a daily basis. I first experienced CarPlay in a Chevy rental and really enjoyed it. The only thing that bothered me was the constant plugging/unplugging whenever I had to enter/exit the vehicle. Given that BMW's implementation is wireless, my only criticism is now gone.

I am a heavy user of Apple Music, Siri, and listen to Beats 1 radio quite regularly, so this may be why. I used to invoke Siri using my watch, so having a dedicated button on the steering wheel is definitely nice. Additionally, Apple just announced that CarPlay with iOS 12 will support third party navigation apps (i.e. Waze, Google Maps) making it a no-brainer IMO.

Having it link to GoogleMaps will be an improvement, but I was ready to rip it out of the car after CarPlay took over the in-car navigation screen which was in use to display that some low priority text message had arrived. I wound up missing an exit ramp on an unfamiliar highway. When I realized that any nonsense arriving by text takes over the center screen, even when in navigation mode, I disconnected it and am pleased to leave it off. As a further annoyance, once the text was dismissed, the radio sound would not return without using the iDrive controller. Total garbage.

I did not experience that during my time, albeit limited, with CarPlay, but I understand how that can ruin the experience. Hopefully these bugs were fixed in the latest iDrive, but I guess I'll find out soon!

When you get Navigation (in the Premium Package), is CarPlay just a software add-on? Or is it additional hardware?

I'm asking because if it is software, I could theoretically have BMW add it later (and not initially buy it).

I believe it's just a software add on, so you can always get it after the fact. I leased so made sense to add it and only have to pay half the cost.
