the 2 series will be an amazing car

the 1 series was ranked as the second best car by consumer reports. the 2 series is an improvement on the 1 series. it's slightly more spacious, better looking and more powerful with better fuel economy. i think it will be a knock out.

I wouldn't use consumer reports as authority on cars. They concentrate more on # of cup holders and such. Some of their latest ratings are amusing: 99 for tesla model s and 95 for Chevy impala.

The Tesla is a fantastic car, and the IIHS said it was one of the safest cars they've ever tested. It's fast, handles well and has a stunning exterior. Most professional car publications would agree. Not to mention its a huge leap forward in technology. Not bad for a first year startup car company. Wouldn't you say?

In fact, it has me wondering what the hell the other car companies are doing (BMW included) that they can't build a better car than said startup. It's embarrassing, really.

This! And the new Impala is a solid vehicle that is getting very high remarks by just about every car report I've read about it. And it doesn't look like a grandma mobile anymore.

I think his point was more that the Impala was only four points behind the Model S, not that the Model S got a 99.

Point is there are many cars I'd rate higher than impala, and while Tesla is awesome its far from perfect.

The OP was only saying the 2 series looks to be better than the 1 series. Why put down 1 series owners?

I love my 135i, so I could care less what other people think.

It lost to a Lexus 460L for overall top score

That number is "overall road test score". From the 2013 auto guide, the 135 coupe 6MT score of 97 is 1st in category and 2nd among ALL vehicles they tested, The Lexus 460L got a 99.

I'm actually surprised by the rating, as CR typically isn't a fan of BMWs

Other BMW models in the survey:
F30 328i: 86 (2nd behind the G37 with a 95)
535: 81 (10th, Audi A6 quattro was 1st with 93)
750Li: 74 (7th of 8 cars in the category, Lexus 460L was 1st with 99)
328 vert: 76 (4th, VW EOS was #1 with 78)

SUV scores are lower, I guess that would be expected if this is a "how it drives" evaluation
X3x28i 80 (1st in category)
X5x35i 69 (12th of 21, Lexus RX450h was 1st with 88)
