Lock/Unlock beep

One of the biggest pet peeves with my E90 was that there was no beep when unlocking/locking the car (especially with locking always forget if i did it or not ). I'm getting the standard idrive system, no optional packages, on my M235i, will there be some sort of beep? :

I believe that requires the Anti-theft alarm system $400 option.

Older BMWs used to be pre-wired to have it added after the fact, now, I think it's a bit more complicated.

Mine has no audible sound unlocking/locking.

+1 no sound locking or unlocking - although, my radar detector kicks on when ulocking, so that's something.

I am still getting used to the comfort access - which I never had before - and it is pretty nice...

Do the lights no longer flash? On my 135i, I found the lack of audible sound a little annoying at first, but I just trained myself to watch for the turn signal or other light to flash. Also, if the car's been sitting a little while, unlocking causes the 'fuel pump priming' sound which is a low humm sound for a couple seconds...

Same as on the F30, you have to have the Anti-Theft Alarm System (Standard on the 335, optional the 328) to get the beeping. Flashing lights should be configurable via iDrive upon locking.

if you are quick enough, i.e. near your car, then you can hear the locks clicking into place. My 128i doesn't have the beep either, but you can hear the locks click.

That's good enough for me because the locks clicking is usually pretty loud. Can anyone confirm that's the case on M235i standard?

My 228i def has the audible double beep..has the alarm with the pack I got and can adjust in idrive how long the lights stay lit when opening. A big plus from my 1 series.

It seems pretty silly to not have a little horn noise possible without the alarm. I've had that since my 98 Civic.

Yes sir - and if you lock the car by tickling the door handle, you can see them go down into the locked position as well.

Thanks for confirming. I actually like not having the beeping sound and the flash lights. Keep it low key with the lock clicking

Sounds like you should shell out for the alarm option if that's what you're looking for. Basically the alarm is all the noise you need for confirmation, panic, etc.

Now you can change all kinds of things in terms of lighting - I believe there is a menu where you can dictate how long they stay on and whatnot...

It's great - I don't feel like I am searching for my car keys all the time - they just go in the briefcase and stay until I get home.

Wait - are you saying the car doesn't have a car alarm? That's ridiculous. So if stolen, it will not start freaking out? That seems like it has to be wrong. Alarm isn't even an option on the online configurator. The manual PDF also talks about the panic button and doesn't refer to it as being optional. <shrug>

Alarm is definitely an option in the configurator.

No, it does not come with an alarm. It has a passive immobilizer to prevent it from starting but it does not start beeping and flashing. Alarm is $400.

Alarms are pretty useless these days. Especially if they can get in via other methods (hacking your comfort access key)
