It's the lack of public knowledge that the M2 is even coming that baffles me. Here we are 9 months from SOP, and how many potential M2 customers are tying themselves into 3 or 4 year leases on other cars, simply because they have no idea such a car is even coming along??

This is the second time I'm openly asking this. Why are people here expecting BMW to release info on a car that is not out? Did anyone ask Porsche to do the same? Did the general public know about the GT4? Does it even matter? Don't get me wrong, I want to see the car as bad as you guys, but these questions and criticisms don't make much sense to me personally. |

Especially when there was a complete M2 at Genava in Donington Grey... Why not release a darkened image showing the silhouette or the proportions at least... With the caption "It's coming" or "watch out GT4" or anything just to get the excitement through the roof! Lol

I have called the porsche twice about the GT4. I can get one in july!
Still hoping for news about the M2 soon. Otherwise it could be a GT4 for me. |

Why the impatience? BMW will release the M2 when it is good and ready to do so. They have to complete final tests before the final sign off and that includes cold weather and hot weather testing which we will see during the duration of the year. Some pre-ex emptive marketing will begin soon.

BMW better be sure they have someone test it in humid 90 degree weather around mid-day while wearing a suit for at least 2 hours at a time. Leather/vinyl seats are awful in the american southern summer.

Another shortsighted move by BMW... Hope BMW develolment is reading this. Yes we can upgrade to a larger luxo barge to get ventilated seats but what I'd we don't want to... |

Start of production is few months away and we still know almost nothing about the car. I'm glad Marketing efforts will begin soon as it will drive awareness and create the need for the product. In the meantime however, why let the competition chew at your heels, it is illogical at best? |

If the auto market was boring right now it wouldn't be a big deal. But with all the other competitors going full throttle it's kind of like "what the heck, BMW?" |

They have an employee or employees making comments on this board of enthusiasts, and it simply stirs up the pot. Do we like it? Of course. But when that same person makes a mention about March, people are naturally going to be looking for different types of information since we are already 1/2 through the month. Do we potentially become irrational? Perhaps. But instead of capitalizing on it and cultivating more interest in the car, there has been a bit of lag in new info - and when that happens, people start looking elsewhere.

There really wasn't. My friend was following it closely because that was most likely going to his car. We knew absolutely nothing about the engine (that they were going to stuff the 3.8L), that it was going to be MT only... these were all rumors.
There were just spy shots. That's it. So how is the M2 any different in that regards to information? Quote:

If the thought of a compact, RWD, manual transmission BMW for a somewhat affordable price (this is relative of course) doesn't do enough to excite you guys on its own, then I don't know what will. Next week is officially the first week in Spring. I fully expect more spy shots at the very least to come out soon enough.

So what marketing did Porsche do with the GT4 prior to its online release?

I'm going to give the GTS a very hard look before settling into an M2 or an M3 because of that option alone. The larger point being, and since BMW is a for-profit entity, if I want to give them money for something, they should do their best to collect it. I hope they wise up and adopt Porsche's "a la carte" approach. It's a huge money maker while attracting additional customers due to the highly customizable configurations... Rant over. Off to a quick weekend drive with the 3er... |
