Sport Seat question

I saw a base 320, w/Sensatec Sport Seats and it had power bolsters. Very nice. The rest of the seat was manually adjusted.

The 228i question is, if we DONT get the Premuim Pkg, but do select Leather and MSport, do the Sport Seats come with the power bolsters?

yes sports seats have power side bolsters, but lumbar support, heating and memory are extra options

The bolsters just inflate and deflate as far as I know, so manual adjustment would be...interesting. Maybe a pump button like on those pump up shoes from the 90's? Or a tube and you have to blow it up yourself? :P

question about fit/bolsters

Hey, I'm sorry to both resurrect + hijack thread but I am a newb and apparently locked out of starting a new thread.

How large a person does one have to be before the sport seats become too confining?

I ordered a 328i and just before car was about to get to dealer, realized that dealer ordered automatic trans by mistake! Doh!

Then--I thought I didn't fit in 2 series but then drove one without moonroof, and loved it. Salesperson thought that seat bolsters were not adjustable. I realized a day or two later that they were. The bolsters were snug but still comfortable.

Then I got to thinking that bolsters might be too restrictive on a long trip, or if I wore a winter coat, or gain weight (I hope not!) I am now on vacation and I'm not sure when I can get to BMW dealer next. I am 6'1", 195 lbs, 43 jacket, 36 pants.

I am pursuing a dealer trade for a 228i but need to resolve this before I pull the trigger.

You'll be fine...I'm 6'1 and a little over 200 lbs. The 2'er fits me like a glove

You should be fine in a Two with the sport seats. In fact I might argue that they're even more helpful for the taller and, er, weightier man (although I do not qualify on either count, at least I didn't before Christmas…) I have found that there is a lot of lateral momentum when taking corners relatively fast in this car and the side bolsters really help. I am also very appreciative of the lumbar support in long journeys.

Thanks, guys. Anyone in the 220lb plus range for whom the seats fit just fine? I'm interested to know how much margin for error I've got here.

I'm 6'2", incredibly long-torsoed (29" inseam) massive shoulders and about 350lbs on a good day. I am basically built like a gorilla. I fit just fine in the seats, and find them reasonably comfortable. I did find that the thigh bolsters bugged me for a day or two when I first got the car, now I don't notice them. I have done a couple 12hr drives in it.

And I absolutely do NOT fit in a 2-series with a sunroof, but I can wear a helmet (just) in one without.

You should be fine...the bigger issue is do you have a good belt?? 6'1 195 I would think 36 waist pants would be falling off of you...lol. I am 6 feet 200, 205 during the holiday, and have to wear a belt with 34 waist pants.

I thought I would post some follow-up to my question in case this may be helpful to anyone. I drove the 228i again. The bolsters were not a problem once adjusted. However, I felt as though the seat was pushing into my upper back. I took it out for an hour, stopped and fiddled with all adjustments a couple of times. Then compared it to a 328i which did not have that problem and thus was decidedly more comfortable.

So, that is the direction I am going. I was a little torn anyway btwn agility of F22 and practicality of F30; the seats just made the decision for me.

Curious if anyone else had issues with seat pushing into upper back?

6'4" here - about 220, but have been 265. The seats in my M235 are the best I have ever experienced. You can even adjust the width for winter coats vs summer wear

No, not a problem here and I am gigantic.

I will say about seat comfort and things that bug you - it is really hard even on an hour test drive to tell if something is REALLY going to be a problem or not. As I mentioned in my previous post here - the lower bolsters really bugged me for the first day or two that I had the car, then I got used to them and no longer notice anything amiss. Probably took 8-12 hours of driving. Similarly, when I got my 328i in '11, the first couple days with it my knee was horribly bothered by the way it hit the edge of the door trim. Really, really uncomfortable, but I got used to it over the course of the first week with the car and it ceased to be an issue.

For both cars I did Euro Delivery and put a ton of miles on in a relatively short time - 2600 miles in 8-9 days with the 328i, and 4000 miles in 3.5 weeks with the M235i.

On the 228i you do have the option of getting the non-sport seats which have much, much smaller bolsters. One thing I find an absolute necessity on BMW seats is the lumbar adjustment, which is part of the Premium package. So that is a must for me, and a big reason I ended up with an M235i. No way to get a 228i without a sunroof but with the lumbar support.

LOL - I already have a convertible, I don't need two! Though I definitely do NOT fit in it with the top up, so it never goes up.
