MSR intake for m235i

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1099926

Anyone know if MSR likely to make a similar, simplier intake for N55 F cars ie M235i/F3x x35i ?

Just another expensive, loud, and hot filter on a stick that might make 3-5hp for a few hundred rpms across the powerband and cause CELs. I REALLY don't understand the draw to these things. The days of cars actually making usable power from intake upgrades are long and gone. This MSR intake is accomplishing EXACTLY what the factory intake does all the while being made out of heat soaking metal.

And cost 5-6x what the Dinan CF one does?

Probably - so I intend to stick with my Dinan CAI that I've been running for about the last 1.5years !!!

Smart man. I just don't get the filter on a stick appeal. Well I mean I do if you want "cheap thrills" with nice sound upgrade and a low price compared to Dinan, but pay a ton more for something that would likely perform worse doesn't make a lot of sense.

If people want the induction noise, just buy another OEM lower airbox for $130 and cut it up to your heart's content. I've got the M2 lower airbox (has a 2" by 3" hole with velocity stack) and just that small opening makes a nice difference in hearing a bit more induction and turbo noise. Take out 70% of the airbox and it will be loud plus you'll preserve the factory designed airbox/panel filter design and most likely, no CELs.

I haven't verified this but you could probably just remove the cold weather flap assembly and end up with a slightly smaller hole and have something that accomplishes the same thing and is 100% reversible.

I actually did this with my stock airbox. Oddly, it doesn't create near the sound as the M2 airbox did. Likely because the "snow valve" is facing the alternator whereas the M2 airbox opening is right behind the headlight plus it's on the driver's side thus more audible. The snow valve opening is also about 30% smaller.

Good to know. Figured someone had tried it. The M2 lower airbox isn't that much is it?

$170 which I consider expensive coming from the Subaru WRX world. However, I didn't want to chop up my OEM airbox or buy another one. I figured I'll be able to sell the M2 airbox for half of what I paid when I sell the car. I like to be able to return my cars to full stock.

Oh that's it bad at all. I would have guessed double that. But I'm used to BMW prices haven't been in Subie land in quite some time.

i bet you loose 5hp using that. It basically becomes a radiator.
And why all the welds, they couldn't fabricate it out of one piece?

Id love to see how hot that thing gets after 1 session on a track.

What happens when it rains, hard? Oh maybe that's where the price comes from, built in water injection included!

Is there any real advantage for this kind of design?
