i wanna see a sport car from BMW, something like Subie BRZ, Toyota 86.

Did you know the COG of the Subie BRZ/Toyota 86 is better than the Porsche Cayman, & only behind the Ferrari 360?

I am very excited for the 2 coupe Scott26. I hope I will see it before the M4. Would rather go with the smaller and cheaper M variant, but I am hoping it is quite a good looking car. Plus I am not interested in a performance 4 cyl that has been rumored for an M2. Keep up the great work!

I'll take an M2GC w/ an inline-6 please. It'd be the E46 M3 sedan that BMW never made.

I agree. This segment used to be BMW domain. The Toyota GT86 is technically very similar to the E30 M3. BMW has gone in the direction of more weight, more luxury, very poor engine response, and less driver involvement. Some of the M-cars are still fairly sharp, but the basic models are nowhere near as involving to drive as an E30 318iS used to be.

I have had a string of BMWs, and want my next car to be a BMW, but if BMW can't provide Fahrfreude anymore, I will have to consider the Toyota GT86 instead. Several of my BMW enthusiast friends are also going from BMW to this car.

Agreed, since the US won't get the 1 series hatches, a four door 2 series makes even more sense than a 4 or 6 Gran Coupe.

Let's get back to reality; 4 series (4 door pricing)? a 3 series with a sleek roof that should cost more than a 5 series.

Now we should get a FWD 2 series Gran Coupe that should cost more than a 3 series?

3series GT with a price to mach a 5 series.

on so on.
BMW is counting on China and on Leasing contracts; European tax laws are slowly changing, in few years it will be cheaper to buy a car personally than to lease it on the company. Only 20% of sold cars go to customers (Germany).
China is slowing down and maturing as a market (few years back you had to pay extra on the list price if you wanted a normal delivery time; now you get 20 off the list price if the producer wants to avoid sitting on the "luxury" car).

Long term? BMW should avoid Audi marketing and sale methods.

AS a current owner of new F20 125i M Sport (very good) and having owned previous M cars (very, very, very good), I think BMW has to let their M department take control of the next generation of M cars instead of trying to make them into Grand tourers
(EG M6) to appeal to a wider audience.

BMW already has the mechanism in 'M Sport' in each model now, for the
'Grand tourer or Sport'

let M be the wild child it was meant to be

I think the motor seems very well suited for the purpose. It is a high revving naturally aspirated engine. For me 150 hp would be enough, so 200 hp is more than I need. The important thing is that the power is delivered immediately after stepping on the throttle. In my F20, there seems to be a one second delay, which is a real killjoy.

And some of my friends are rather tall. I am 189 cm myself, and one friend who is 196 cm fits just fine. There is even room for a helmet. He will probably buy a Toyota GT86, having driven only BMWs for 20 years or so.

I don't know if it's just me, but the back end of the second picture looks just like an Alfa Romeo Brera (which is a great looking car but crap quality, which I know since I've owned one). But never the less make the 2 gran sport coupe look like that, with a 6 banger M version and I'll be considering a little brother for my 1M (If its RWD of course)

And my personal favorite (& some others):

With an engineered 4cyl, 360ft-lbs is possible. with CF top, limited slip & 6manual... with a 1" longer wheelbase than the 1M..?

Scott.. what is with all this Grand Sport Tourer & Grand Coupe stuff..(?) those cars are fine, but you must have a raw version of the car, before upscaling it. The M2 should already be near testing phase, or in production.. or didn't the CEO of "everywhere" not take notice the demand for the 1M..?

Where can we find a RWD, 6 manual with LSD in america...? BRZ?
Vow, that last render and wishful thinking naturally following the image I like the idea of M2 including a Gran Coupe variant, hope it will be different than the 1M in certain aspects though, just to have its own personality. A well engineered 4 cylinder turbo with more weight saving would be really cool.

A front wheel drive BMW just seems pointless. If you want BMW quality and engineering, but FWD, they already make the MINI. Anything significantly smaller than the 1 series would be similar in size to Toyotoa IQ.

I think there is quite a big gap in size between the Toyota IQ and the one series. The F20 feels bigger than an E36 3 series, and my 116i hits 1350 kg on the scale. I wouldn't mind downsizing it a bit.

The current one series size is the segment where the most cars are sold in Europe, so that is what I (with euro-eyes) would call a normal size car. The 3-series and bigger are big cars, while BMW has no small cars in the current lineup.

The Hyundai Veloster is actually a great looking little car with very decent sporting dynamics and far more communication for the driver than an equivalent Audi. I like cars that dare to do something different and stress individuality over the conventional option.

The genes from the Gran Sport Tourer actually manifest themselves within the BMW 2002 and the sporting Coupe like Touring models.
But GST is designed to be more sporting and innovative to the customer.
One promise is made no matter if the car is FWD or RWD BMW aim to offer customers the most sporting , dynamic , innovative and exciting propositions in the entry segment.
Cars are more personal today especially as technology progresses, the car is no longer that tool for A-B. Style , individuality, driveability and innovation is what signifies the expression of the car in this age and especially a BMW.

The 2er Gran Coupe and 2er Gran Sport Tourer are exclusively RWD.
That is brought on by the fact that BMW customers would prefer a small four door sports sedan but only if it is rear wheel drive.
By making the 2er Gran Coupe RWD it sends out a strong message to the FWD competition the 2er will face namely the Mercedes-Benz CLA and Audi A3Sedan that BMW are targeting enthusiasts with what they want from a small sedan.
