Cross shopping
What other cars where you considering before you bought your M2C? I was looking at the Jag F-Type, C7 Vette, M4, and the Caddy ATZ-V. Chose the M2C because it checked more boxes for me.

At the end of the day at the $60k-ish price point there was nothing else that interested me. I was deadset for quite some time on an M2C but stayed away for a while due to insane Covid pricing.
I toyed with an RS3 but I was coming from the MQB platform with a Stage 3 Golf R. I wouldn't go beyond stage 2 with an RS3 and that really wouldn't get me much more power (if any) from what a had. Also, those cars, while great all rounders (especially the Golf R), are just kind of numb. I really wanted to get back to BMW, a manual, and RWD. I probably would have at least given a used, manual CT4-V Blackwing a go if the opportunity presented itself but I was so locked on a M2C I don't think it would have changed my mind. I would have had to increase my budget about $35-$40k to get into what I would prefer...718 Cayman GTS or a 991.2 Carrera T but at this stage of my life with 2 kids (even though these cars are second/fun cars) are not really ideal. I still need backseats. |

-C7 GS: Main reason I didn't pick this is because my wife didn't think it was "me." Sometimes I wonder what things would've been like if I had gone this route. -Camaro 2SS 1LE: Didn't realize the car is as big as it is (longer than my F31 wagon). DQ due to size. -Lexus LC500: Really like this, but also DQ'd due to size (bigger than my F31). Also pretty heavy. If I had a fourth garage spot I'd get one for a weekend cruiser. -Supra: It was a hard debate since it can't fit a set of tires/wheels to take to/from the track and isn't as practical as the M2C. Wife said I'd eventually really hate that. -Jaguar F-Type: Wasn't as practical, kind of heavy, more expensive. Similar to LC500. I'd like to own one for a weekend cruiser but not dual weekend/track. I kind of wish I had cross shopped an M4 GTS. At the time their values were pretty low to what they are now. Regular M3C/4C were too similar to my F31 daily driver.

GR Supra 6MT - Tried for a few months to buy this car, but Toyota dealerships wanted far more then the car is worth, wasn't even considering an M2C at all until I had enough of the BS with markups and allocations that I decided to see how much a lightly used M2C was going for. Fell in love with the M2C and bought one and I feel I made the correct choice.

In my case, I came from an Audi S3, so I considered going with an RS3, but ultimately I wanted a car that did not do everything for me. Audis are too easy to drive and really do not have much emotion once you get past that low-end torque within the first couple of gears.
I test-drove a GR Supra, which I liked, especially because of that B58, but the lack of backseats, extremely small cabin, lack of visibility, and some of the styling turned me off. My finalists were the F80 M3 and Ford GT350. The F80 M3 might have taken the cake, but when I was shopping for one, I could not find the right spec or milage near me, so that was a no-go. The GT350 on paper and from many reviews seems like an amazing car, but after speaking with people who own them and have driven them at the limit, I wasn't convinced (they said the car was very unpredictable), also, it has terrible MPG (and I daily drive the M2C) and it is an ordeal to have to do so much research on the specific car to make sure it didn't have oil consumption issues, and also I did not want to have to worry about my engine possibly blowing up lol. |

GR Supra- at the time the manual was not out yet, but had it been out, would have been a VERY difficult decision
M2CS- I got the M2 Comp, but had I known I would end up modding the Comp to be like a mini-CS, I would've tried to get a CS while prices were reasonable Completely different cars, but worth noting: Macan GTS- at the time, it seemed like a nice mix of fun and practicality, but in retrospect, definitely glad I went with a more enthusiast-focused car. In retrospect: GR86- Would have been a great daily-able enthusiast spec had I realized how fun light cars are

I briefly looked at the Supra at the time but the M2C was way more practical so didn’t think too much about it.
An exercise I constantly do is if I was in the market today, what car would I get over the M2C? The only car I would consider is a 911, but other than that, there’s no other new car I’d get over the M2C. It’s still the perfect car for me. |

23 Supra 6mt
RS3 981 Spyder 997/991 C6 ZR1 Gen 3/4 Viper I was all over the place, but fell in love with the m2c when I drove it and I have 2 kids, so back seats were a good perk. I decided against the RS3 b/c I like RWD cars. I've had 3 997's in the past and a gt4 so I wanted something different as well. |

TBH none, really. M2 had been a one-day-attainable dream car since it was first announced. I remember over the span of a few years I would stroll in to BMW Seattle to see if they had any on the lot available to test drive. They never did, and told me there was a long wait list of people waiting to buy one sight unseen (new concept for me at the time).
Eventually in 2020 I got the chance to finally test drive an M2C and I fell in love with it. Within a few weeks I had one in my driveway. Dream obtained, and the bond formed with the car has been something I didn’t expect. |

For me, I was looking at cars 55k and under. The two main cars I cross shopped with was the Supra and the Alfa Giulia QV. Loved how the Supra drove, always have. However the visibility always throws me off. I personally hate how I can see the headliner so visibly in my normal field of view. I loved the Alfa, I think it’s so much better than the f80 m3 and there’s no other car on the market like it. It handles phenomenaly, and still is very fast. Also love how it looks and sounds. Ultimately, I realized I didn’t need a 4 door car and decided to get a coupe again. What sold me on the M2c was the test drive. Took off traction once and it just diced and kicked the rear out on me with no effort. That’s when I knew I needed one.

I currently go back and forth if I want to sell and get a 718. But nah I think keeping this bad boy is the best move 👍🏼

I considered the RS3 but couldn’t get past that the front tires were wider than the rear. I felt it was their way of overcompensating for the front wheel drive bias. Seemed weird…

I was coming out of a 718 GT4 and a 991 Carrera 4S before that and was considering a 991 Carrera S/GTS, GT3, C8, AMG GTS, or ZL1 1LE. A guy that was looking at my GT4 suggested a M2C. I hadn't really ever paid them much attention because I thought they were a little slow on track. The guy that suggested had a GT4 and a M2C and said he liked the M2C better. Went on line that night and a manual M2C had just been traded in that day. Test drove it the next morning and bought. Really didn't know anything about it. It's much quicker on track than I expected, and even set a new PB at 1 track. Really enjoy it much more than the GT4.

I considered the Cayman GTS, the CT5-V Blackwing, and a G80 M3. I just couldnt get over how big the ugly the M3 is. But the other two are on the short list if I find more garage space.

None.
Started saving up for a replacement to my E46 M3 from the Month I bought it over 11 years ago. M2C was the first car I felt to be the right car to replace it with, so I waited for prices to drop to within my affordability range and bought one. |

had a .2 gt3 and a f80 ,both 6spd. i was getting bored with the f80.
i looked at a supra but they were only auto at the time. rented one and the trans was a let down. lc500 was nice and sounded great, but at that level i expect a close to pdk level trans and at least some performance. the car would kick on traction control all the time. front end was ponderous when pushing it. took a look at the gt350 but after researching the voodoo engine issues and seeing it in person i was like meh. found a nice m2c dct. already had mpe and 763m wheels on it. just felt like a better version of the m3. hard to explain why. just feels more like an e46.

Lightly looked at the GT350, but originally wanted a F80 M3. Went into a dealer to test drive a M3, they also had an OG M2, so I drove that as well.
After feeling the driving difference between the two Ms as well as seeing the relatively decent size rear seats of the M2 in person, I decided it was the way to go. |

Looked at the rs3 but I refused to pay the dealer markup.
The 991 and 997 I could not find one I liked without traveling half way across the country. ss 1le Previous time on track in a 6th gen SS also made me want something else. The back seat was a little small for my kids car seats as well. M4 I was not a fan of how large the car feels in comparison to the M2. If the M2 did not exist I would have purchased the M4. |
