So, I'm standing near my car...

... shooting the breeze with a friend. And, I have the key fob in my pocket. Can someone steal my car?

Give your friend the key fob or lay it on the ground next to the car and find out.

That would then be a gun to his head and the key fob transferred over, hopefully something that never happens to any of us.

And if it does, just hand them the keys. You have insurance for a reason. Not worth getting killed over

You're correct. I should've got off my butt and actually tried it before making the post. Heh!

So, I did just that last evening. I set the key on a stool, very close to the car. Sure enough, it won't start. This is good to know.

My car won't start with the fob in the driver's door pocket. Works fin in my pocket or in one of the center-console cup holders, but sometimes can't be "discovered" if too far away from the steering column.
