Are the lights off?

Request to admins: Would you please look around and make sure all of the lights are on? There must be a dark room somewhere where the trolls are breeding and multiplying.

Unfortunately the 2er may have reached the dreaded point of being affordable to Walmart greeters...

Point taken, however...

I'm pretty sure they don't work at all, and still live with mommy and daddy.

And if they do work, they still live with mommy and daddy. Spending every dime they have, to be something they aren't. And still not being satisfied with their lives

I'm a little salty today...

The entitlement generation

As I've probably mentioned elsewhere on this forum, I spent the last half of my career at our local university as an electronics technician. My daily commute was only 2 miles, but that was enough to see many students driving to and from the campus in new or nearly new Mercedes Benz, BMW's, Mustang's, Huge little pecker trucks and you name it. While on foot, many would walk right out in front of us while they stared at their smartphones, even with earplugs.

Tuned out, zoned out and clueless.

i live next to an extremely expensive private university in dallas and in a pretty upscale area in general. seeing kids in new bentleys and s63 coupes etc is not uncommon. id be lying if i said im not a little jealous.

i mean, im in my late 20s but look like im maybe 21 so im sure when people see me step out of the EB m235 they think the same thing about me but i pay for my shit so whatever.

Perfect storm of disaster is dad works a lot, stupid second trophy wife raises equally stupid junior to be an entitled prick. Multiply by 10x worse if only child and another 10x if there's tension with ex wife and "real kids." Don't get me wrong I don't give a fuck in general but when I have to deal with the human parasite that is junior I do get annoyed.

I think our favorite friend also fell victim to the two no-nos of gremlins. He definitely got wet (we have photographic evidence) and someone must have fed him after midnight.

I think the 'perfect storm' additive is the 'never drove a car before, was just gifted a 400+hp machine that they don't have to pay for'. And you have a truly poetic streak in you - I will be recalling 'the human parasite that is junior' far too often as I dodge idiots on my daily (I'm also right next to an 'affluenza support center').

The good thing is, for this demographic the 2er is usually a training wheel set that gets rode hard and put away wet for an average lifespan of 2.3 months before meeting some sad demise.

Back when I was in college at the dawn of the century living in the dorms, there was guy in our hallway that couldn't get laid if his life depended on it. His dad (on his 3rd wife at the time) got him a single room just so he can "bring chicks backs at his own convenience". His dad also bought him a brand new 330i coupe at the beginning of the year, which he wrecked not even two months later. His dad then bought him a brand new M3, which his drunk buddies wrapped around a tree a few months following that. His dad in his endless pity and love for his beloved offspring purchased him a Ferarri 360 to finish off the year in...

I actually know someone who, as a college freshman, was given a brand new M5. He then traded it, even money, on a pimped out Escalade. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

See this I do not understand. If I were the dad, and I thank my personal god I am not, I'd buy the kid an SUV of some sort and hire a full-time driver. I get a kid wanting a nice car but you can be sure the kid is safe, in a nice car, and still looks like a big shot (read: giant cocksucker) when he has his own staff as an undergrad.

And truth be told pity and love don't enter the equation here. Guilt and bad parenting and a desire to live vicariously through one's offspring do. Pretty sure dad never got his dick wet in college either and the only thing getting him laid later in life is his bankroll.

Guy I know with more money than god and too many notches on his bedpost to count drove a beat up old Volvo because he didn't want chicks after his dough.

To balance the conversation: there is the converse as well. I was debating whether to go for the HUD on my new 3 Series when my son dropped-in. He mentioned some problems with his old DD to work. I realised that the HUD cost more than his car was worth - Time for me to recalibrate some relative values. I lent him a couple of grand (which he repaid) to get something a bit more reliable and safer. Probably money much better spent than on the HUD.

Expensive life lesson #1: Chicks really don't care much about hot cars, just how clean they are and if they run.
Expensive life lesson #2: The ones that seem to care, are probably looking for a bankroll.
(I know, there are a few gals out there who get it - but mostly you'll be picking up the pro-am set with those rides)

Now that's a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Highly doubt the kid is going to turn out rotten if you help him get something reliable and safe - to drive to work no less. If nothing else you bought yourself out of some worrying and a midnight trip to pick him up when his car died in the middle of nowhere.

There's definitely something to be said for getting the little ones "up and running" if you can help them out - often times a little $ at that stage goes a long way.

many of the most expensive cars you see being driven on campus are owned by only children from China, where all families, even the very wealthy who can afford to send their kids to college abroad, have one child because of government restrictions. There is a very high duty on new cars being imported to China, so if the kids drive the cars for a while in the US and then import them back to China when they return, everyone ends up making a bundle.
My local dealer tells me that some of these kids come in with a wheelbarrow of cash and no drivers license.
What, me worry?

Lights are off from an admin perspective (respectfully, this subforum is low traffic compared to the rest), but there is a strong sense of "vigilante" justice/support from experienced members that give me some hope that the FNG's will stay in line.
