I have been told by several that they use NADA not KBB. The prices there also are more realistic from my experience. |

Trade in values on a newly released cars will vary wildly. Even if KBB or NADA provide a value expect to walk into a dealer with a number that will likely be thousands less than you expect.
Also keep in mind trade ins really muck up the new car buying process. You can no longer rely on an honest value of your new car because the dealer can move value between the trade and the new car. IE they may give you a great deal on the new car but they are undervaluing your trade by that value to make up for it. If you have the option, I always recommend trying to sell privately first, especially if it is a clean car under warranty. Generally the amount you'll save on taxes via the trade in will be outweighed by what you can get privately.

My car has some M perf parts and msrp is around $51500 If I sell privately Im losing the tax difference of whatever amount of the car is selling for and thats around $2000

Boston winter is a tough time to sell a 2 door sports coupe, but I've sold all of my past 7 cars privately and I always move the car faster than I expect for a price I wanted (or better). Another option if you have some M performance parts that are easily swapped is to find someone on the forum who is willing to buy them off you and swap their core parts. You could easily pop off things like an exhaust, trim, wheels etc and make a quick profit on the parts which honestly won't impact your trade in value much if at all. Trading in is great if you're the kind of person who is willing to just walk away from a couple grand for convenience, but those are the people who also pay MSRP and keepers profitable for people who live on forums and nickel and dime every purchase like me.

More then one dealer and a few peeps in the auto sales industry's say that auction values by location are the preferred method used to get values, access to Manhiem used car values is pricey.
Nada, black, kbb are good tools, I guess really the only tools we have. Last edited by overcoil; 02-11-2015 at 05:19 PM.. |

Try Black book. I think this is what dealers use. To my understanding, the actual black book numbers/formula are closely guarded. But it did find this site, may be useful??
