"To flush or not to flush that is the question"

"Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to worry about your engine
The start up's and long idles of outrageous traffic,
Or to take preventive maintenance against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them. To die—to sleep, to drive"

Wondering as a preventative measure to do an engine flush on my 12k motor, regular, "MORE" than regular oil changes, 10km a day, no issues, only seen dealer oil and filter.

More importantly, could I damage anything ? I had a nasty experience with orange washer fluid so I don't take things for granted.

ECS has a kit for my car, so can't be bad ?

As for the financial side of it, this isn't even a consideration, I feel it is money well spent.

No worth the cost or the effort. Just change the oil and filter every 6000 miles and you're set.

At best you'll notice zero difference, at worst... you'll notice things you don't like.

Do you use synthetic------> no flush

Do you use Dino oil ------> yea, don't use dino oil.. IF you have dino oil in anything then flush it.

Ceratec is a good additive it's really all you need for peace of mind.

I just came across the thread

https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1955757

I may skip this and just do a straight oil change,
always good to ask questions and confirm your an idiot and not after the fact

Dont waste your time and money with flushes and addtives. Plus, BMW specifically says NOT to use oil and/or fuel additives. Routine oil changes with a quality oil and filter is all you need to do. Don't over think this.

I like Liqui-Moly products - used their oil and additives like Cera-Tec on my former 2005 ZHP. Ran well and was still netting me ~26MPG after I sold it at 250,000 miles.

Haven't used it in the 240 yet since the engine is still healthy and low on miles relative to the ZHP (80,000). Blackstone Labs analysis also confirms this. Will begin using it after I hit 100,000 miles.

Flushes are only used in one scenario when a car is abused and has not seen an oil change in many many years and mileage

Get good synthetic oil, filter and change regularly. No need for any additives.

If you use Ll-01 oil, I'm sure you can go it's distance. On my e46 it was 15k miles/oil change. Not sure on my m235i,but I got 386k miles on my e46...motor was fine at the time.

On my 1965 VW bug, the oil had to be changed every 3000 miles and they were not kidding. But it had no oil filter and I could do the work myself in ten minutes without even needing a jack. I also probably dumped the oil into the storm drain, which went into the ocean. Times have changed in 60 years.
Use the oil that BMW specifies and change it when the car tells you to. We have done that with all our BMWs for the last 25 years. So far, so good.
