HTF do I know when my m235i is at running temp

Am I just freaking mistaken and missing something obvious? Nowhere on this 2015 m235i that I've found in the IDRIVE computer or dash, whatever, shows the temp of the engine. My e92 did, and like most cars, it's good to know when I can horse around and I don't until the engine is warm. Yeah yeah, I know I can drive it for 10 minutes or so and expect it to be ready - but still.

weird omission.

You are correct. There is no engine oil temp indicator on the M235i.

If you're a pro, you'll do this without stopping the car.

Not many cars have an oil temp gauge, but I've never seen any sporty car that didn't have a coolant gauge. Other than this car.

And yes, as others pointed out P3Cars has a solution - for $400.

Crazy.

There is a way with the hidden features. Search for it.

It has to do something with pressing that odometer button and adding the VIN numbers and it will show a few features.

It's in the OBC hidden menu, but it's a pain to get to it every time you drive...

1. hit the start button with your finger already on the trip reset button
2. hit it until you hit unlock...
3. add the last 5 numbers of your vin, thats the unlock code
4. it's under the 4th option labeled "temperature" i believe

Well, there's always the BMW M Performance Electronic Steering Wheel...for $1,751.

And then do exactly three jumping jacks and tune to the secret radio station that can be found by holding down the iDrive mouse button while simultaneously depressing the menu and automatic windshield wiper button.

I know it was. I just wanted to emphasize how ludicrous it was to have to jump through all those hoops to get vital information that should be right in front of our noses. If it's accessible at all through iDrive, and it is, why not just put a folder in iDrive for Engine Information and display oil and coolant temps? We can look at that instead of what song is playing from our own iPhones since we already have that information.

I guess it's wishful thinking that you could do that and store it in one of the 1-8 hot keys? Has anyone tried that?

No silly that's how you get the car to default in sport mode. Don't tell everyone!

This is in the dashboard not idrive. You can only store things in idrive to the keys.

It sure seems BMW should put out an update for this so that we can see this in IDRIVE.

Yup easily placeable with the performance view with HP TQ etc.

Or at least put an idrive beep with dashboard confirmation when you reach optimum temp
