218i (2016) camshaft issues - urgent
Hi all,
I'm new to this forum but will hopefully stick around if I end up keeping my beloved 2 series. I have a 2016 218i with 48k miles on it - over the last couple of days I covered 800 of those miles by driving from Cardiff to Glasgow and back. On the return leg I noticed I was getting a rough idle at a service station. Subsequently, 200 miles from home I got a check engine light (but no warning noise or notification on the screen). I carried on driving and it was very stable at motorway speeds but first/second gear accelerating there was a rattling sound. My code reader gave me a P13C9 code and P0366 code (camshaft position sensor). After letting the engine cool down from the drive I started it again and this time was extremely noisy (like a diesel engine) and making odd sounds. My questions are the following: 1. Is this going to be an expensive fix? 2. Should I order some camshaft position sensors from autodoc and fit them myself? (I have previously fitted a new purge valve in this car myself so have some knowledge) 3. Should I drive it, or have it towed to my local independent BMW specialist? Both codes point to timing issues but I can't understand why at this mileage it is giving issues. Many thanks |
