I'm not the the slightest bit concerned, if something happens.

Glad people have another cheap power add-on option. Anyone that leaves a 1 minute install tune on their car for warranty work is a complete lazy fool. I don't care what your dealer tells you, if you blow the tranny or charge pipe and they see you have an aftermarket power add-on, BMW corporate will not cover it under warranty, the only work around is the dealer lies to corporate for which they take a huge risk and for what purpose?

I had my local dealer install an aftermarket LSD on my 135i, they were even an approved installer for the LSD and gladly installed the product. However, they botched the install and then tried to say I had an aftermarket tune on my car that must have blew the LSD, they opened a case, found no tune, and then fixed their mistake. Thankfully I flashed the Cobb back to stock file prior to that visit.

So, yes dealers are nice guys right up until something goes wrong, then not so much and they start looking for areas to blame.

Maybe 5% of the dealers will lie and work with you vs. BMW corporate, but I fail to see any logical reason not to take out a tune for warranty work. Chances of issues on a low boost tune are negligible, but if something comes up don't be foolish and leave a tune on.

Nice, so I'm a fool huh? Not sure what you and the other member aren't getting from my previous post, but MY dealer says it's cool.

Lucky for me my dealer is not an ahole like some of the dealers you guys are obviously working with.

I've never had to remove my S2 for any warranty work and I don't plan on removing this one either.

Oh, and I seriously doubt I'll blow a CP or my transmission on 4psi boost increase, but then again, I don't care because MY dealer will take care of me.

Way to highjack the thread btw.

You don't have to remove Dinan S2, that's what you are paying them for.....the warranty

My dyno appointment got pushed to next week so no numbers, sorry.

But I did spend all day driving around today; city, highway, back country roads. Big fan of the increase in torque and for some strange reason my gas mileage is terrible

Again, very happy with the felt difference for the price.

Does it otherwise drive normally or is the on-set boost more abrupt and more lag felt? I believe that's the biggest complaint with the JB1.

Good for you, don't want anyone else to follow your methods though. It's bad advice to trust a dealer with warranty issues and a non-Dinan stage 2 tune as that's the only one that carries a warranty.

And yes, many people have blown charge pipes even on stock boost, countless threads on this.

Not hijacking any thread, I make comments when I feel appropriate and in this case I feel you have a unique situation with a lax dealer and while that's great for you, if others follow suit, they more often than not will not be happy campers if something goes wrong.

Enjoy your tune and nice dealer.

Believe I said MY dealer...each person should check with their respective dealer.

I, for one am not interested in defrauding either my dealer or bmw. IF...something were to go wrong, either with this "mini" tune or my Stage 2 tune, I will obviously be looking to my dealer for support. Failing any support, I had the tunes installed, at my own risk ultimately.

Uninstalling any add-on product after something has happened and then taking it in and claiming the car failed in some manner is fraudulent.

It feels "normal" to me until I get on it. No change in felt lag that I can tell. I wouldn't call the boost more abrupt, but I would say it comes on a bit more aggressive.

In any case, spent about an hour on the road trying as many combinations as I could think of. My butt-dyno pegs "Race" as the most obvious change in performance. I also tried the various settings in Comfort, Sport & Sport+. Again, most obvious impact (for me) was in Sport and Race (4psi boost). Definitely pulls better than stock, that's for sure.

Someone asked about if the "tip-in" improved in Comfort mode. I don't think it was better, was a bit hard to tell.

All in all, for $300US, I'm happy with my purchase. I now have some new life/fun in my 2 year old N20! As for no warranty for this device (beyond the actual product warranty), not worried. The Dinan tunes are safe enough, so not concerned about the new device.

My brother-in-law just picked up a '16 228 N26. I mentioned this unit to him and he said once he gets through the 2k break-in, he'll be picking one up as well.
Hey BMWZ4,

Thanks for the review! I was wondering if you could post a picture of installed unit? Would like to get an idea where to place the device

I ordered mine last week and I'm hoping to get it soon!

Thanks!

Sure thing. I'll snap one when I get home tonight (not driving it today).

As promised, pic attached. Hope it helps. Reminder though, this is the X3 N20 engine bay, so my location won't necessarily match-up with yours.

My pleasure. You'll like the added bump. It's noticeable.

P.S. excuse my dirty engine bay! Just back from the cottage last weekend...dirt roads and lots of dust!

Got it installed but little confused on app. There are two on/off, top and bottom?

Yeah, agreed. I haven't spent any time in the car since installing. Best I could figure is the top on/off button allows the boost dial to function but the other button is off...meaning there's no boost?

Rather than me guess, I'm sure Dinan will chime in shortly and properly explain.

Sorry, not much help!

yeah, i think you are right!

it's definitely nice little upgrade. I mean, it's not $2k stage 1 and higher so it won't be "wow" factor but it definitely has little bite to it and more responsive. I think it's well worth the investment.

Btw, what setting do you have it on? I have it on "race" at the moment for 4 psi, Idk if it's safe to keep it there all the time? I have heard from some owners saying CP going bad, that's with stock! Hopefully, it won't happen to me lol

Oh and here is the picture of mine :P

The app is definitely a work in progress and we have gotten a bunch of solid feedback to change it going forward. To answer your question though... the top on/off toggle is to turn the boost gauge on/off. The bottom on/off toggle turns off the app. At the moment it kind of functions as a reset button.

Nicely done! Looks good. Your're right, definitely no stage 1/2, but worth the $300. After my install, I left mine on "Race" (4psi) - I think the worst that could happen would be the CP cracking (~$300 at the dealer), but I don't think anything worse than that would crop up - IMHO. If you wanted to, you could be proactive and replace the CP with the ER CP or the pending less expensive VRSF CP (supposed to retail around $220US).

In any case, I think all will be well. Dinan tunes are somewhat conservative, but I suppose anything could happen. I'm personally not losing any sleep over it.
