Dinantronics Sport Performance Tuner

SKU D440-0010 $299
http://www.dinancars.com/product/d44...ries&mid=1183/

Anyone have experience with this turbo boost controller? Dinan clearly states:

WARRANTY: DINANTRONICS Sport does not carry the factory matching warranty that Dinan is known for. DINANTRONICS Sport's warranty is a 1 year product only warranty that does not cover consequential damages or labor reimbursement.

Thanks for the feedback!

There is an introduction thread over on the F30 board.

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1282052

Looks like a couple orders are in and hopefully in the next week or so we can see some impressions. Honestly for $300, 1 connection, and bluetooth controlled boost I don't think there is a better deal. It is definitely not the best tune out there but certainly seems the simplest.

There is some discussion about tunes in another thread and people are ripping on Dinan even though no one had used this product yet.

Looks promising for us wanting just a little more power and not have to run crap through the firewall.

Mine delivered Tuesday. I bought it for my n20 x3 and for $300 I figure it'll give the tired old x3 a little boost...so to speak.

I have a Dinan Stage 2 though on my m235i...which is really great.

Anyway, I'll try to remember to report back at some point in the weekend.

Mine arrived at the shop today. Just waiting on some dyno time so I can do a before/after. Will share results as soon as I get them.

Since the tech said it would take all of 30 seconds, I just went ahead and had my Dinantronics Sport installed today.

Initial butt-dyno feedback is quite noticeable. To keep me honest, I had the tech sitting in the passenger seat changing modes (Sport, Sport +, Race, and Valet-lol) in no particular order without telling me so I could get a legit perspective on the change. Our first impression was the additional 3-4psi of boost was definitely apparent, but it also seems to hold it longer. We both agreed that overall it pulls stronger than stock. Not FBO-level stronger, but definitely stronger. Like, tingling-in-the-pants during acceleration stronger

I am looking forward to some real dyno numbers to share but in the mean time I'm quite happy with the change, especially for the price.

The quoted 15 minute install time is a bit deceiving and in most cases it is under 2. The MINI (B38/B48) though may take 5 minutes since the sensor is under the airbox... a little extra work but not by much. =)

Glad you are enjoying it thus far. Cheap power. Look forward to hearing your feelings after you've had a bit more seat time with it. Also look forward to seeing the multitude of initial reviews this weekend once everyone has had some free time messing with it.

Curious, is this detectable via BMW diagnostics if removed when brought into service? Is there a BMW history log of engine calibration/mapping?

Also, what is the ETA on iOS support? No iOS support, not buying. :-(

Doubtful any bmw dealer would give you a hard time with this tune or any Dinan tune.

Take the tune off when you go in for any service and certainly warranty work. Don't kid yourself in thinking BMW will cover things like charge pipe, tranny issues if you are upping boost. Dinan doesn't warranty any issues and nor will BMW. BMW doesn't even cover warranty issues potentially related to the $2k Dinan tune, it Dinan matching and covering the warranty issues.

Don't be foolish, it's 1-2 minutes of your time to take it out.

Well, that might be the case with some dealers, but my dealer is a well-known Dinan re-seller/installer. They did my S1 & S2 on my 235. I rang the shop foreman yesterday for $hits & giggles and he said to let him know how it goes because they expect to be offering them to their customers!

So while some dealers may take issue, mine is the opposite and encourages their customers.

Appreciate the tip nonetheless.

EDIT: As for warranty, I think you're mistaken. There's coverage available from either side, depending on the issue. I'm sure Dinan will chime in here to confirm.

So, installed the tune earlier this morning on my X3/N20. Install time was less than a minute. I spent more time deciding best place to tie-wrap the device!

In any case, spent about an hour on the road trying as many combinations as I could think of. My butt-dyno pegs "Race" as the most obvious change in performance. I also tried the various settings in Comfort, Sport & Sport+. Again, most obvious impact (for me) was in Sport and Race (4psi boost). Definitely pulls better than stock, that's for sure.

Someone asked about if the "tip-in" improved in Comfort mode. I don't think it was better, was a bit hard to tell.

All in all, for $300US, I'm happy with my purchase. I now have some new life/fun in my 2 year old N20! As for no warranty for this device (beyond the actual product warranty), not worried. The Dinan tunes are safe enough, so not concerned about the new device.

My brother-in-law just picked up a '16 228 N26. I mentioned this unit to him and he said once he gets through the 2k break-in, he'll be picking one up as well.

If dealer fails to cover a repair due to mod, Dinan supposed to cover it.....just not with this product because it's too cheap and they will end up loosing money

Dealers offer Dinan products for an obvious reason, they get a cut from each sale lol

They definitely get a cut for selling/installing Dinan products; not to their advantage to sell/install then refuse warranty work (covered by either Dinan or Dealer).

Dealer is just a seller, they don't deny or approve warranty work, it's BMW USA. They can only try to push BMW to cover something.

I think I read Audi now days reads your ECU data each time you visit dealer and all ECU info gets forwarded to Audi USA, if you are modded your car is flagged right away.

And if they don't, Dinan will. I had a small issue once last year and the dealer covered it.

Clearly you've had first hand experience being denied coverage from either party.

Forgot to mention the app; easy enough to use but you have to remember to NOT start the car before making changes to the settings. Bit odd, but not a big deal. Should be like my other Dinan app where you just enter the MAC even after the car is running. Minor stuff though.

First hand experience, no. I don't want to be the one crying that my car is flagged and I have to pay $$$$ out of pocket.
