Exhaust tips size: MPE versus stock

Is there any difference in size between the MPE exhaust tips and the stock black tips? In pictures it looks like MPE tips are wider in diameter and stick out farther.

Is this size difference purely cosmetic? Or does it actually affect the performance and sound of the exhaust?

lol I don't know, guess it was a silly question. IMHO the MPE exhaust tips look a little bit too large on this small of a car...

Really? My local BMW dealer told me the stock tips will not fit and they will only use the chrome MPE tips if I purchase the MPE through them....

Do a search and you will see most people reusing the black tips

I did, that's why I was puzzled when my dealer stated they would only use the chrome tips and refused to reuse the stock tips. Not sure if they were just scamming me into buying the MPE tips or genuinely thought they wouldn't fit.

I guess you already know the answer.

Why wouldn't they want to sell you $80 tips?

Lol $80. I think they are $250 which is outrageous. That being said I am an idiot and paid for them. They do look great though!

Also they have a small hex bolt on the underside which is what holds it onto the exhaust. I changed my rear diffuser, which sticks out a little further. I ended up loosening the tips and sliding them out half an inch to compensate.

I reckon the 12.5% larger outside diameter is good for a 12.5% increase in horsepower...so about 40 horses!

Since I installed the M Performance diffuser on my GF's M235, but she is not ready for a full blown MPE, I bought the adapter pipes and M Performance tips since the stock tips don't stick out enough.

Unfortunately, the adapter pipes do not account for the peg that positions the stock tips, so I am going to have to saw the peg off and file down the residual metal before being able to seat the adapter pipe. Kind of a pain in the a$$.

What have others done to resolve the issue? Curious to know before cutting off the alignment pegs. That is the path of least resistence versus altering the adapter pipe. Suggestions???

You cut the pipes. Shorten them, taking the section off with the locating pin. Instructions can be found here http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showp...7&postcount=33

I'm hoping to replicate what you've done here by using the stock exhaust tips with the MP Diffuser. Can you shed a bit of light on how exactly you did it and what extra parts were required? Thanks in advance.

Not that I have a tape measure handy right now, but the outlet is definitely bigger. 90MM sounds right?

MPE outlet is slightly larger diameter than the stock outlet but there is space in the stock tips to fit, the tabs just compress more. Believe me..if I installed them anybody can do it

So then, what I'm asking is this; I'm getting the MP Diffusor; fitting the spacers to the stock exhaust and fitting the stock Tips to them in order for them to protrude the required length. Is this a scenario that will work?

Got ya; so do the stock tip fit straight on the MPE without any extra parts then?
