Ethanol mix is very popular among many tuned/modded cars. So, if your looking to add higher octane and increase the power of your car, do the research and see what you need to run ethanol safely. As stated here, stock fuel system e30 and lower is fine. Keep in mind every car is different when accepting different amounts of ethanol which is why reading your logs is important when adding. I have the option to flash over to 93 then flash over to an E mixture tune when I want. That solves the issue of corrosion, poor gas mileage, as I only run E in the tank when I'm gonna use up my tank for racing in a day or 2. Its possible to have the best of both worlds if you want the added benefits, that in my opinion out way any of the cons. E powah is a great thing!

Very interesting idea..... I may have to consider "re-thinking" my opinion on the E mixture topic...

I wonder if this back and forth flashing availability is an option on the DINANTRONICS Performance Tuner Stage 1 for a 2018 F23?

Ask Dinan directly if you can use a mix of E and pump gas with your stg1 tuner. If you can, simply Google an Ethanol calculator and then you can determine how many gallons of pump gas to mix with e85.

As far as flash tuning, bootmod3 is a tuning platform that allows flashing your dme on the fly. MHD will also do this when it's released very soon. And most recently you can now flash via OBD so no need to remove dme for unlocking. All new stuff really.

Being you have an m240i, check out the b58 forums on N54tech to learn more about your fueling capabilities.

Bottom line, enjoy using e85

For me, there is nothing anyone can say to me that will convince me to put e85 in my BMW.

As for my boat, "the twins" are always fed an ethanol free formula.

So, less than 24 hours after stating “there is nothing anyone can say to me that will convince me to put e85 in my BMW”, a vague, random post about an alternative e85 map has you “re-thinking” your opinion. Not sure if trolling or just extremely glib.

You could more charitably believe that he was completely overwhelmed by the power of your logic.
Or maybe he just started celebrating early.
Either way, you win, at least in this one instance.
As for me, there is nothing anyone can say to me that will convince me to put e85 in my BMW.

Nothing to win or lose in an online argument. As for your personal decision not to run E-mix, that's all up to you.

Its called having an "OPEN MIND".. or learning new alternatives.. ideas and what not, it's why these forums exist, changing ones mind / opinion is not a criminal offense you do know that don't you or perhaps your the troll that's extremely glib... maybe not?

Appreciate the advice and the additional information on flash tuning, will send an information request on the e85 with Stage One topic to Dinan. I don’t have much experience with tuning auto’s but I do have some experience with tuning 4-stroke outboards, I have done ECU upgrades and some custom tuning on a pair of Yamaha 225’s that sit behind my ProLine.

I am also hitting up some friends in the Corvette forums for their opinions on e85. Although I opted out of a new C7 for the m240i, (a decision I still second guess…) I stay in touch with people I have met when I owned a C5 & C6.

This has to do with our fuel pumps (we have two) more so than anything else. Most people are not educated on e85 enough for BMW not be overly cautious on what they tell customers.

e85 is not as dense as fossil fuel. So our pumps have to work harder to pump e85 compared to the equivalent amount of fossil fuel.

If you ran full e85 in our cars the pumps would not be able to keep up.

No actual damage to the engine would take place though. The ECU monitors the HPFP and LPFP (high and low pressure fuel pump) among other safety variables. When it's over worked it puts the car in limp mode. This is why we run low concentrations of e85 (e30 is usually the sweet spot for the n55).

Also the only thing about ethanol free fuel that is better is the MPG. Not sure why else you would say ethanol free is better for your car. E85 runs cooler, cleaner, has higher octane, resists detonation better. less pollution...
