Don't think BMW M has ever released a new engine in their cars during a life cycle. Would devalue the others. Next gen m2 most certainly will have an engine based off of the b58 though!
E34 M5, E36 M3, E36/8 M Coupe had engine changes, it's normal.
And look what it did to values of the lesser engines..BMW being the company it is today I wouldn't think would do a new engine. My opinion though..we will see

M also hasn't had any time with the b58, so I wouldn't expect them to just shove a engine into a car without first putting it through the paces.

Since the M2's engine isn't an "S" engine, maybe they'd be more inclined to make a change mid-gen to help drive sales after the initial demand wears off.

No worries, they'll sell however many they plan to build with N55.

No. The E87 was planned with its current engine. BMW will not certify another engine for 100+ global markets.

That makes zero sense from a business standpoint.

The M2 GTS will have even more firepower under the hood. So wait for that to come out.

They should have used the B58 from the get go. It really is a nice upgrade from the N55. The N55 is good but the B58 is better.

I don't think BMW really cares about the values of cars they've already sold.

They did nearly zero to the N55, what kind of "time with the B58" do you think they'd need? Also, the B58 has been running in the F30 for a while, so they've had plenty of time.

I disagree. I think that there are probably very few (if any) things more important to BMW than their brand, their reputation. Therefore it is very important to the BMW that their cars hold their value.

The ZF 8 speed with shorter gears plus the same torque as the M2, it's no surprise the M240 is just as fast if not faster than the M2 in a straight line.

I've "heard"... that a M235i is slightly faster above 210kph(or 135 mph) than a M2. But just by a "tad". Now... I'd still take the M2, because it's ALL about the TOTAL PACKAGE to me. I really want a M2!!

BMW is in a bit of a predicament, bc they can't put a S55 into the M2 bc it would just kill M3/M4 sales. So we have what we have.

Btw... I've also heard that the new M340i will just "walk" a tuned 135i(with 410 Hp) on the Autobahn - with ease. And that's in a big heavy F30!! The new B58 engine is waaay under rated.

What attracted me to the M2 rather than an M3/4 was the price. An m2 GTS will surely be M4 money if not more. Here in AUS, the M2 spec'D up is nudging 115k. A spec'D M4 with CCB's will cost you no less than 185k. Waiting for the M2 GTS would be great.. But I feel like it's for a different target market with people who have deeper pockets

That make me want the G21 M340xi even more! That B serie engine seem to be really impressive the 328i and the 340i have same EPA rating. Let just hope they change their mind about the G21.
