ZF8 flash?

Is it possible to flash ZF8 to behave like this? More punchy and engaging?

This is m235i racing, stock transmission, different software

Looks much more engaging on track, really close to DCT, but I'm not sure if it is healthy for transmission and if it is possible to actually do it on regular car?

Have you tried sport mode with shifter to the left in S mode? Feels punchy to me like a DCT.

Nope, still haven't test drove car, but according to forum and magazines, they say zf is a lot smoother (disconnected) than dct.

the zf8 is very fast, its not as fast as a DCT but only microseconds slower...
It can handle alot of power before any issues, probably 550whp without an issue for a long period of time.

That being said, you cannot flash the tranny. BMW Motorsport is the only one able to perform that function for the m235iR spec cars. These cars are also maxed at 333whp, so if you do any tuning, your going to have more power than it.

Just a thought, but maybe the gutted out interior creates a sound illusion of the shifts being more aggressive...... (i'm no acoustics engineer but no gutted interior = less sound compression due to lack of layering of carpet and trim which results in increase of metal noises, sound reflection, etc)

bryan_f22 how then tuners can flash transmission when they are remaping ECU? Alot of tuners can do transmission tune also. Alpina has switchtronic, a lot people from E90post have done it and find it better than stock so I assumed it is possible.

starvmarv you are right, they say in description of m235ir that that effect has been exaggerated because of stripped down interior, but they also say that transmision is tuned to shift faster.

Main complaint about zf is that it lacks of 'emotion' and connection when compared with dct but I guess only way to find out that is to try out both cars.

Sorry for bad English

It really sounds to me like it's all exhaust that you're hearing. Like mentioned above, less sound dampening with interior removed so the exhaust is louder. My shifts seem louder as well, very similar to that video, ever since I went catless and Remus cat back exhaust.

Do you track your car? How do you like fast downshifts?

the f80 and f82 have transmission flashes available that were taken from the GTS.

There is none available for our platform.

And f30/32? I posted here because I thought it is the same drivetrain.

i highly doubt any f30 has a transmission flash.

They are taking the TCU from a completely different car and hoping it works. If you read the threads, most ppl say it does nothing.

I have tried to get the 235 tranny flash from my 235iR racing friends, they make it all clear that BMW Motorsports is the only ones that have access and can perform it.

The other platforms have probably been cracked, like the ECU's.

Sounds like an exhaust, stiffer mounts and drivetrain compoents, and a gutted interior making the tranny sound more aggressive.

No flash available for ZF yet =\
M2 is lucky it shares the DCT from M3/M4 so they're using the new GTS flash as well.
Bootmod3 just released a new GTS flash a few days ago

TCU can be flashed thru OBD2 port with a product like TMC Autoflash

Some forum feedback on it

there are multiple cars with over 500tq on the stock auto zf tranny without any issues, mine included.

Even if it was available, I wouldn't mess with something that works perfectly fine.

The M235i Racing's 8HP45 TCU flash is more than likely in the BMW psdzdata and it'd just be a matter of somebody knowing all the tricks with the latest BMW software to flash it to a normal M235i.

That looks like an amazingly good TCU calibration. It sounds like there is aggressive torque reduction during shifts, allowing a very fast shift with very minimal clutch wear and heat build-up. Perfect for racing. I would imagine the racing calibration would also not automatically upshift in M mode, but instead hold on engine rev limiter.

The M235i doesn't upshift in M mode by default and kickdown gets disabled also

That's good. It makes the auto vs manual decision even harder for me!

I work at a BMW dealer and own an M235i automatic. I have driven the M2 with a manual gearbox as well as the DCT- ditto for the M3/4. In my opinion, if I only wanted a two pedal car I'd take the 8HP45 over the DCT every time.
