JB4 OBD Passthrough

Currently have Jb4 in my vehicle. I have tried a scantool obd reader and iCarly obd reader plugged into the jb4 pass through.

Both time JB4 functioned abnormally. Does anyone have any experience with the scantool plugged into jb4?

It won't work. JB4 needs all the bandwidth.

Bummer. Is there an easy way to do an oil temp gauge without obd2?

Yeah. Sometimes I don't open the app though. Bluetooth connection is somewhat finicky other wise I'd just set it to auto open and auto connect every time the car turned on.

It wont work. I tried it with Vgate wifi icar 2 adaptor used with BimmerCode and it would not connect. Tried directly into obd2 port and connected fine.

Was about to pull the trigger on an Awron guage but after researching I realized it wouldn't work with the JB installed. I think when all is said and done with the setup I'm after, I'll ditch the JB4 and get a proper flash tune, then a proper in dash gauge with all of the features. I am against cell phone mounts as I find them a bit "tacky" so I just drop my iPhone in the cup holder and watch my temps that way for now. I actually stopped watching my oil temps because these cars run hot and watching the numbers climb into the 100*c range just annoys the crap out of me, even though it's normal operating range on these cars.. first world problem for sure!

In the same boat here. I will keep JB4 and stack with a flash tune in the near future.

I have an old iPhone mounted behind the cup holder area. I popped out the little storage compartment to get it to fit. It's stays in the car 24/7.

Honestly though I rarely use it anymore unless I'm updating my custom map 6 for some reason. When I track the car I use my main phone in a window mount so I don't have to look down.

I made a custom 3d printed mount for that area. I stick my phone to it and run the jb4 app from it for logs, I just like knowing when my car is up to temp.

All I know is, these cars are running damn hot, way hotter than any car I've owned before. I see an average temp of 110*C around town and cruising at highway speeds, which is about 20*C higher than anything I've seen before. That said, I've done a bit of forum browsing and it seems that is the running temp for these newer turbo cars. Right around 110c/230f, which is hard for me to be "okay" with, lol.. I'll get over it.

The oil temp in mine stays at or near 242F most of the time and wtr temp bounces between 220-235F I have read that is completely normal for N55. Seemed high to me as well.

Yea just took some time getting used to the new "norm". How's your car running with the new FMIC?

Been good so far. I have been meaning to update the thread. I am waiting on summer blend E85 to tinker with Map 7 now. Put her to the test

Just did an intercooler myself. I was waiting for you to get yours too. There's always those frew guys that keep you keep noticing in the forum and it's interesting to follow their builds. I think you helped me a whiiiile back with a bunch of wheel fitment questions so I remembered the name. E30-E40 and map 7 is awesome. Just watch your hpfs and trims.

Along with fmic I just added meth. Now I'm tinkering with nozzle size and meth concentration, once I get that ironed out I think I'll finally do my first dyno run. Map 0 and map3.

Hey you were not joking about this. Lately I have been having connectivity issues just with the app. I figured it out by dumb luck and from this post.

The app would not find the phone, I would turn car of and on of and on, close the app open it, forget Bluetooth, reset blutooth, hold my phone right next to the Rev kit and nothing.

I run Waze and Spotify from my phone basically all the time in my car. I actually have them auto start when the detect the cars Bluetooth. I happened to close all apps then try the jb4, and it worked! Apparently the Bluetooth streaming of music and connecting of the app was asking too much of it.

Anyways it connects fine now, I just have to start music after I'm connected to jb4 app.

Thats cool, i have been following your thread on your meth journey. I have debated on going meth but mainly drive mine for fun and don't ever track it. I know people that daily meth cars but they aren't BMW's. Seems like a ton of tinkering a marginal gain when not tracking. I feel like I'm running into a wall with this car. I love the car but I'm never satisfied with the power. I always want more. There are too many upgrades needed to go to the next level. Stg 2 turbo, fueling, clutch... not sure if i want to travel down that road with this car but my would it be fun when its done...

I thought the same thing. It's actually really not bad at all for dd although I only "kinda"dd the car. (After work and on weekends). It definitely adds more than a little bit of power too and it is a relatively cheap and easy install. Tinkering is also not bad. I just ordered the kit and ordered boost juice, Set it up and it was good to go.

However to optimize the performance I am changing the mix and nozzle size.

If you can read logs ok I would def recommend it. If you have any other questions or want a more in depth description of power/ feel just pm me.

That sounds more like a phone bandwidth issue. The phone should be able to handle multiple Bluetooth connections unless you're on an older phone maybe.

I was referring to the actual OBDII port bandwidth and the JB4 connection. JB4 does not like having anything else plugged into the actual obd port.

Galaxy S7. Either way it's pretty strange.

Speaking of oil temps... has anyone heard anything good or bad about this jb4 oil cooler valve. I wonder how much this reduces oil temps in our cars..

I did come across this while searching. Definitely looks promising
