M2 OEM muffler in m235

So have recently been deciding about getting a different exhaust note in the m235 while still maintaining my marriage with my wife lol (she hated my exhausts in previous cars). Debated between several options from different axlebacks to muffler deletes. Ultimately went with the OEM m2 muffler. I know at least two threads that have done this by converting the stock diffuser or combining the m2 and m performance diffuser together. I'm not gonna lie, as much as I would've loved the quad tip look, I didn't want to go either route as I'm not as crafty, nor did I want to cut my recently purchased m performance diffuser.

Managed to pick up a new m2 OEM muffler from m5monster on the forums, and went to an exhaust shop to modify the muffler from quad tip to dual tips. Shop mentioned I'd be compromising very little sound as the quad tips weren't resonated. I also happened to purchase a set of CF tips from a forum member a couple months ago, so it was a good opportunity to throw them on as well. Muffler and installation cost me about half of what any other option would've cost...and man does it sound great! Better notes and burble, no drone.

Would recommend to anyone looking for an axleback alternative! It's been raining all day today and will be for the next few days, but will try to post a few clips when the weathers a little nicer.

Would love to see the final pics with the modifications made from quad to dual tip. Sounds like a great mod for the OEM+ guys.

I also went with the M2 exhaust from m5monster. It is considerably cheaper than anything aftermarket, it looks awesome, and sounds awesome. Good work OP. Post some pictures

quick video from garage on a cold start. didn't realize the video was cut short after the first rev until i got home. anyway, gets the point across. definitely what i was looking for, more aggressive tone at idle and high revs, no drone in the interior.

Nice work and idea . I thought you would lose that incredible sound if you cut the quads. Glad you went with your gut and you, your wife are happy.

Please post more Videos and Pic.
This is a no brainier upgrade i dont know why more people arent contacting me about these Mufflers.

More video's please. I am eyeing one of these (doing the same thing you did with the tips) or a MPE.

I'm working on a video for my setup, probably have it up this weekend. I tried shooting last weekend with my gopro but the stock mic is horrible and my suction mount would vibrate like crazy.

I could see people not doing this because there still isn't a good amount of info on it yet, and the process is not a simple cut the pipe in your garage and clamp up the new muffler like the MPE is. I found that the pipe that is entering the M2 muffler is bent slightly differently and I couldn't get the pipes to mate properly using the BMW clamp. I had to go to a muffler shop and have them weld it on. Then I cut my stock diffuser for the quad tips, something that was scary and an unforgiving process.

That's why I haven't pulled the trigger yet - sounds like a great deal and a great sound and I'd love to do it, but it also sounds a little complicated, especially if you are going to keep the quad exhaust - so it's not straight forward - if M5 Monster put together some kind of tutorial on how to do it -and preferably one showing how to convert to dual exhaust and fit with the stock M235 diffuser - I think he'd sell a lot of them

as M2? i dont have any clips of an M2 next to mine, maybe at the BMWCCA autocross session tomorrow. i want to say it should be the same though, if not just a little softer from cutting dual pipes to single. definitely a step up from m235 stock though

Tailpipe makes little to no difference in sounding.

Have you heard an MPE in person ? Do you have any opinions on the sound of the M2 muffler/M235 combo versus the MPE?

I haven't heard the MPE for the m235 in person. As this is coming from an m2 though (so should be an m equivalent exhaust already), I want to say it should be pretty comparable based on all the feedback I've read on the MPE being 10-20% louder with no drone. I will say that you can still hear the exhaust with the windows up, something I couldn't hear from our stock muffler.

Now the MPE for the m2 I've heard in person and is on a completely different level, but I think that's retails for a couple thousand.

I'm probably going to be selling my set up soon as I recently took advantage of an m2 allocation that opened up. Diffuser/muffler/cf tips would be coming off if anyone is interested, already fabricated to fit, just an easy cut and weld.

Exhaust shop only cut the pipes, not the valve. To be honest, I only drive in sport mode, so this is actually the first time I'm thinking about this...should still work.
