Just ordered ER FMIC/Chargepipe?DP..now what software?
Hey all..recently got in to an m235i xdrive, and after a couple months reading and doing research I finally ordered Evolution Racewerks DP, CP, and Intercooler. I've spoken with a lot of dealers, and this set up seemed to fit my intentions best...That is..room to upgrade more in the future if I so decide.
Now, Im still not sure what ECU tune Im going with, but I like the idea of either Active Autowerkes flash tune (somewhat locally based) or a manhart tune. I will not be doing a piggy back, as I intend to delete my speed limiter as well. Also, lucky for me, the only authorized US distributer of manhart is local to me as well! They are getting info on both options, but Im curious if anyone here has any input? |

It all depends on features wanted, really. For me, Bootmod3 would make the most sense, and I'm far far away from their home base. Go with A) a tune in which support is readily available, and B) has options like tune switching, data logging, etc. A simple off shelf tune with no map switching capability doesn't leave much on the table for the end user. Just my $.02

bootmod3, and you can get a map from any tuner you want and switch to them and back to stock if wanted.

However, you're probably the 4th or 5th person that has recommended Bootmod3. I looked in to it, and it seems a bit more intense than I personally feel comfortable doing. Maybe Im looking at it wrong, though? What hardware/software do I need? Who makes the maps? I'm not sure I feel confident in doing my own tunes. |

you don't make your own maps with bm3.
Its a platform like how Cobb/MHD is for the n54's. You can use your cell phone to manage maps and log. They have basic off the shelf maps available, or if your tuner is certified with them, you can have a custom dyno tuned map for your car. If i didn't already have a flash tune, i would go with bm3. At this point, i'm happy with my performance so no need to change.

ORL_bimmer There's a popular BM3 Dealer in Miami by the name of MPI "Miami performance inc", they set the N55 World Record on Stock Turbo on a FBO 335 BM3 flash only + Meth 446whp/570wtq (if u into that). you can see them under Dealer listing www.protuningfreaks.com
The BM3 or Bootmod3 OTS Map has been setting records in other platforms, the N55 is growing each day more and much more variety and tuning is going on each day. Your OTS Map will be given based on your Mods/Octane/ and you should log it and send back via Support Ticket and if needed adjustments to your map they will tweak your map, lots of FAQ and other info on their site. Being you're FBO & want speed limiter remove (big reason why we all go flash).

One of my concerns about what/who I go with is future support. It looks like Active Autowerke is not going away anytime soon and bootmod3 looks promising as well as far as future support. I'm open to big turbo's and bigger oil coolers in the future and perhaps upgrading any internals if need be, so future flashes/support will probably be necessary. |

Im leaning toward BM3....But just so you know, the active is a flash, not a piggyback. They don't just do piggybacks and their affiliated shop in Orlando does the flash tune. Just sayin.. I'm not confusing the two. They don't advertise it on their website, but they perform flashes and provide a good level of support.

So I am just waiting on the downpipe from ER to arrive, a bit of delay since I ordered the ceramic thermal coated pipe (Just received the IC and CP).
Manhart would do an ecu flash for me at the tune of $2500.00!! As much as I wanted to be able to get a tune from them, I don't think the cost is justified. I am 90% convinced I will be using active autowerkes for the ecu flash since they are more local and provide excellent support. I intend also to put dinan springs/handling kit on it as well to get a better ride height...and possibly stronger sway bars as well. Hopefully everything will get done in the next 1-2 months depending on when my charge pipe and springs arrive. Thanks all for the input. |

There is the AA Piggy, AA Flash, BM3 Flash or the most common JB4.
If you're local to AA then their flash makes sense, especially if they dyno tune and then follow up on the street. However, there are benefits to other tunes that have logging capability and end user adjustability. A flash done by a shop will have to be altered by a shop in the future and you'll have to go back to them for diagnostics. Not the end of the world for some, especially if you aren't a DIY type of person. I myself prefer to have some control though. |

Just picked up my m235xi today after having the ER FMIC, DP, CP, Dinan Springs, and AA flash tune done. Butt-dyno likes it, but I plan to have it dyno tested in July. Car sounds great, as well. I think I detect a little drop-off in the boost at higher RPM's...at least it seems like i feel it more than before.
AA provided me with 4 maps as well. Right now it's a stage 2 tune for use with 93 octane. They estimate, i believe, about 60-80 whp gains (keep in mind this is awd) with this new setup. I will see what the dyno says next month. Overall I'm satisfied and think the ER products are great, and the AA tune/support has been fine so far! |
