I agree that my choice of words was a bit extreme. I'll edit my post Yes, there are things I LOVE about the convertible. But, I wasn't asked about those things Anyway, apologies for the harsh words, and glad we got this resolved. Congrats on getting the perfect California Highway 1 car !

Do you see those of us who have ordered the ragtop denigrating the coupe version of the 2er whenever someone posts a coupe pic or post? No, that would be childish. BTW as many 1er ragtops were sold as coupes, so while you may not find them appealing, there is obviously a market for them. As for hardtop vs ragtop cabrio - take a look at the trunk of the 2er vs the 4er with the top down and you may understand why many of us prefer the ragtop.

I intended to offer my opinion on the convertible, since this is a BMW 2 series forum and this thread is about the convertible ! My choice of words may have been the problem, but that doesn't mean I was denigrating the convertible. I didn't plan my response that much or that well. I didn't give it that much thought. I don't doubt that the 2er convertible is an awesome car and have nothing against it whatsoever. I was just telling you why it's not for me. I've edited my original post to sound less harsh.

I really like soft top convertibles and every car I own would be a convertible if I could.
What I did do every year was seal my Z4 roof with BMW's roof sealer which doesn't cost much but allowed the roof to bead water and stay really clean. Never use a cleaning product on the roof they can take the sealer off which I did once and learnt never to do it again as the roof fabric looked wet and didn't bead water.

I apologize, I was just trying to be funny and did not intend to start a war of words between coupe and vert fans. We don't need another string of silly ridiculous posts like the two guys that were arguing several weeks ago about whether the 228 or 235 is the better car. It is true that it's usually difficult for designers of convertibles to keep the same flowing body lines as the coupe the convertible is based off of. I own a Porsche Carrera cab and willingly admit the coupe is the better looking car. On the other hand the Coupe can't match the symphony of the flat 6 sport exhaust when the top is down.

From the picture of the Window Sticker it looks like that is the optional "Moonlight Black" top.
From some of the other pictures posted it looks like the standard top is the same fabric as on other BMW's. At least I'm hoping so.... Wife's 228x vert is due in port today and we should have it in a few days. |

I think you are correct bgnj. This top is a one hundred dollar option. I assume if you do not order it then you would get the regular top. I had that on my 128 vert and it was very nice, not shiny like this one. It is not the picture that makes it shiny it is the actual material. Thanks for all you comments.

Trust me, this was NOT with the intention of criticizing the car again. Please re-read my original post. I have modified it.

Looks like a lot of negativity here....
I'll say I don't love the look of the material on the roof. The good thing is when down that's gone. When up, it will likely be raining (at least Id hope this was bought for 90% top down fun). Now your color combo on the other hand.... BEAUTIFUL! Suits the car perfectly. The wheel color looks great with that blue and that interior should be the only interior sold on that exterior! All in all, nice car
