Well both the 2er Active Tourer and Gran Tourer answer more realistic issues from the ever progressing demographic to the company in that customers were looking for further versatility and passenger flexibility within a compact premium package. I don't think these customers are persuaded much by high performance in this segment although those looking for a slightly more performance edge to their Active or Gran Tourer will be offered the M Sport Packet as well as M Performance accessories which will be shown soon.
There will never be an M.

In regards to the new vehicle segment mentioned in the marketing.
It is actually the first seven seater vehicle in the premium segment and it is of course a first for BMW. But we have considered and even showcased cars like these in our history as well as extensive FWD developments well before Active Tourer and even MINI.

I have seen a Gran Tourer on larger wheels that fill the arches practically, I would say around 19" and it looks like a higher Touring but the best thing is it can accommodate seven and you no longer need to extend to an X5 for such requirements. Customers and especially secondary customers - households who have larger families but already own a BMW will be pleased about that.

Okay, FWD or not, even in X-Drive, this would be unimaginable. How could a car like this be built lightweight and stiff??? It wont happen either way, and it is good in that aspect. It would have been wasted money in investment for M, which could be used for an M supercar

I am in the market for a vehicle that will carry six and have room for stuff. I will not get a minivan. The only thing that might do it is the GL63 or an E63 wagon (giving up seating for 6).

This is BMW's chance to get my $$$. I love my R63; but, I would be open to something new.

Remember when BMW would make cars based on their motto and not their competition? That just went straight out the window. Way to go BMW, you've officially turned into your competition.
Out go the enthusiasts, in come the soccer mom's.

The intro for the next BMW commercial:

The M2 Gran Tourer: an (almost) elegant solution to a (product) problem that should have never existed.

That's the problem you still don't understand.
BMW has changed because the customer and market has changed.

I get where you're coming from but really the customers are the same, it's just a new target of customer's they're going after. Let me rephrase that, it's a wider range of customers they're going after. It makes sense business wise, true, but at the same time they're changing what makes a BMW a BMW. And that pushes people like myself away from buying a new BMW.

*Looks around*

I haven't changed. And with cars like the GT4, GT350, and Z51, companies are still making cars for people like me.

///M badge? Not sure. I'd give it a Mad Max Package and see how well that works.
