Hi ever since I got i new phone the idrive system repeatedly reboots anytime I get on the phone. Tested with a 7 and my last 6 and it doesn?t do it. Anyone else? Is there a software patch? Also, doesn?t happen in any of my other bmw?s.

Somehow I knew this was gonna be an issue ...

Two questions:
- Do either your 7 or 6 run on the same version of iOS (11; current version is 11.0.3) as the 8 came with? If so, it's likely not an Apple software issue.
- What year M235i do you own, and do you know what version of iDrive it has? If it has the older version, you may be having a processing bottleneck.

In either case, contact your dealer ... or not, since your car is modded so much ...

Not sure what ios version but the latest one, I believe . It was at the dealer yesterday to get the latest Bmw software loaded but it didn?t help....
I bet the other phones do not have the latest iOS.
This is nuts.

I am running the latest iOS on my iPhone 7 with no issues connecting or staying connected to my m235i.

Also if you have a watch and pair it with your phone that can/will cause your car to drop your phone calls. Why I have no idea but I have been experiencing that with my 6S and 2016 M235.

Which, I'll reiterate (and that is borne out in that thread), may not be a software issue with the iPhone 8; it may be that the 8 is simply too fast for an older version of iDrive to handle. That would totally explain why older iPhones running current iOS versions work fine.

That's why I asked what year M235i the OP has. It matters. So, how 'bout it, OP? What year, and what was your build month?

Everyone, please understand that neither Apple nor BMW are the devil here. One cannot expect a three-year-old car (or more) to have the requisite processing power to handle a state-of-the-art smartphone with a CPU that's been measured to be faster than most of Apple's own laptops. As quick as technology changes, it's simply not realistic. This is the entire reason Apple deprecates support for its own products after 7 years on the market.

So you should have an EVO car (not an NBT car, which is the older processor) with iDrive 4.0. I would think that a firmware -- different than software, by the way -- update could fix your issues, which are surely being encountered by others. I'm sure BMW is working on it.

My advice is to tell your dealer that the software update you had performed didn't fix the issue. Also, I would be sure that you have all apps on your phone closed except the ones you need while driving the car, and turn off cellular geotracking/datastreaming on as many apps as you can.

Just did the latest iOS update 11.0.3.
Still rebooting so not that.

After trying to recreate it again several more times, it “seems” cured.....
I’ll update after more use.

Fyi my SG8+ (Nougat) is doing this as well...I mean my iDrive is rebooting all the time. I also had the dealer update the software and still doing it. I also checked the BMW software update site and there's no new BIN version available.

Model year is 2016. VMike probably right and BMW is working on an update.

I have an iPhone 8 and haven't noticed any trouble with my M235i. Under what conditions does it reboot, only when you're talking on the phone? Making a call, or receiving a call? I'll test it out.

When the call connects the whole head unit reboots. It is intermittent now which is driving me nuts.
I did the 11.0.3 upgrade to no avail.

Hi BarryB,

I've been having the same issue. I have a 2016 M235i and iPhone 8 with all the updates. My workaround has been to turn off syncing contacts in the Bluetooth profile for the car in the iPhone settings. Not the best but it does stop the annoying rebooting until a fix can be found.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Just got a new iphone 8+ a couple days ago and sync'd it to my 2016 228i w/o issues.
