M235ix 18" Wheel Upgrade
After a day at Autocross, and destroying my Michelin PSS's I had to make a decision. Replace stock tires on stock rims or upgrade wheels.
Jason Tung at Get Your Wheels, who I found on this site has been a great resource. Best of several sources I attempted to use to find a set of wheels and tires that will work with my car. Several emails later he suggested the Beyern Spartan Matt Black 18x8.5 et 40 front and 9.5 et 45 rear. Pulled the trigger. I'm going to try out the Hankook K120 EVO2, 235/40 up front and 255/35 in back. (Yes saving a couple bucks for this set of rubber, Need to buy a set of wheels and tires for the track) I can't wait to see them on. I'll post pics and review as soon as they arrive. Early June I hope or sooner.... The point of the post now is to mostly let anyone know who might be shopping for rims, what a great experience I had working with Jason Tung and GetYourWheels.com which as best as I can tell has been the norm. He was interested, engaged, patient, and did research to assure I am getting a set that will work. The pic of the tire was after only 11, 92second laps of autocross. Mileage was 2400 miles on the tires. I'll have to learn not to hit the corners so hot. All wheel drive was like pushing a snow plow through the corners. Guess I'll need more practice! Stock rims for sale. Last edited by stroids88; 05-14-2015 at 04:51 PM.. Reason: title |

Thanks for your support Steve!
Glad we could find something that worked perfectly for your needs! The 18x8.5 +40 18x9.5 +45 is a perfect off the shelf fitment for the F22 with flush fitment and no spacers needed! The Spartans are also rotary forged and priced extremely well! Cant wait to get some photos of these, I know they'll be a hit with the F22 crowd! |

Thanks for sharing your experience with GetYourWheels, I emailed them and hoping to get some resolution with what I want to do.
At 45 psi and still the bad tire outcome... I am thinking that this is a front tire which underscores the need for more negative camber and further exacerbated by the understeering nature of the AWD. I have a RWD car but the lack of negative camber adjustability will probably doom my fronts too What possible solutions do you have in mind to address this problem? |

Well, first off I must mention that this was my first autocross. This is also an all-wheel-drive xdrive vehicle. Reflecting on my day one of my biggest problems was driving style/ability. Way too fast entering the corners. I was trying to drive it like a rear wheel muscle car. Momentum and G force too jerky. No drift. Just plow forward with fronts turned and under power. Also in my assessment I believe for this Autocross, very tight turns, almost no straights, street tires are not suitable, at least if you're trying to be competitive. I will get a set for the track before next attempt. My biggest problem in this run was operator failure probably more than pressures and tire construction. Although I could have had better tire management by paying closer attention to hot and cold temps and adjusting more. I'm interested to try some of the "local" road/street courses.

Thanks, I was actually following the LCA upgrade but I do not know it the xenon headlight rod issue has been effectively solved. I have been thinking about the LCA (or going wider width wheels/tires) it but it will bump me out of the stock classes if I do it and then it becomes a pissing contest of how much money and mods you can do on the car.....

Foamie,
I bought the kit from HP Autosport. Came with the ball joint connector to mate with the existing xenon levelling rod. Xenons not effected by the upgrade. BP |

You are supposed to brake before turn point, turn, start accelerating when tracking out. If you come too hot on the turns plowing forward then the tires are going to get killed |

Beyern Spartans Installed
I am really digging the looks of these wheels and tires that were installed last week. The ride is also good. Haven't pushed much yet. Jason over at get your wheels was great and the install went very smooth. Here's a few pics. I'll rate the ride more later.
