The M135i is a 5 door beast thats fast for a hatch. They are already out here in Germany. They look sick in person especially in orange. <---might be one of those individual colors I saw at the Munich BMW meet.

Not much of a rivalry here in the US. The coupe will definitely win out, if only because we won't get the 135 and won't have the choice to make.

I guess here in the US, BMW doesn't want to put the 135 up against the VW GTI. Then again, do Americans buy hatchbacks? I don't really know.

BTW, I thought BMW was giving two-door cars an even number. That hatchback sure looks like a two door to me. Oh, maybe the hatch makes it three-door???

The four doors are odd numbers and the two doors are even numbers. The M135 will not be a two door hatch since the M235 is the two door the will be produced.

??? Isn't the M135 shown with but two doors? Maybe that's not a production car? I was just going by the photos.

In the space of a couple of hours you've just shown BMW they could make a really good looking hatchback!

How about a thread with the 2er and the 4er side by side?

Thanks for the great pics and coverage of the next great little Beemer
BMW NA should figure this out one day eh?

Well, let's see:
Audi A3 - although the new A3 will be sedan only in the US.
VW Golf/GTI/Golf R - May be reason why A3 hatch is not really needed.
Mazda 3/Speed 3 hatch
WRX-Impreza/STI hatch
Focus ST
Fiesta ST
Honda CRZ hatch
Hyundai Veloster Turbo
Mini Cooper
Prius Hatch-put here to show how well hatches do sell.
Volvo C30

Yes, people in the US do buy hatchbacks, and some sell very well.

That's like asking to photoshop Sofia Vergara's head on to Sarah Jessica Parker's body. Unreal

The amazing 5 door M135i of my friend Ilija:

Cheers
Robin
Actually not, because if you pay attention, only the bumper and headlights are different from M135i. Both cars are sharing front fenders, the hood, even the doors and windshield. After they release the M235i, I suppose you could take the headlights and the new bumper and fit both to M135i.
Fenders are different sir.

The coupe is more different from the hatch than I thought it would be.

Are you sure about that? From the picture above, and E8x series, I'd guess they're identical.
